    175gr Sierra HPBT Handload Quirk

Gentlemen, I decided to move up to the 175gr Sierra's (Matchking) for my 308. I've used M118LR in it before with moderate success, but not at <400 yards and in. As I understand it, they 175s do not stabilize at these short ranges, so I decided to work up some loads of my own to see whether...

    Deer hunting with AR platform

I think this discussion forum may have lost sight of the original posted question, which was the 6.8SPC or the 6.5 Grendel...I think it ultimately ends up being a decision based on the availability of the rounds. I admit I may have worded my statement about the bow/arrow incorrectly. No doubt...

    Deer hunting with AR platform

5.56mm is adequate for deer @ 300 yards and in. As long as you do your part, the rifle+bullet will do their part. I would recommend 75grain Vmax bullets. Think about it this way: Even with a .50BMG, there is no guarantee of a DRT shot. Go on youtube.com, type in .50BMG hunting, click search...

    help with scope

I would go with either the Redfield 3-9x50 or 4-12x40 with accurange reticle. The price on the Redfield is very appealing and I hear they are manufactured in the Leupold factory. They come with a lifetime warranty same as leupold...

    HS precision stock off PSS

Here I thought I was the only one with the same issue! I have a Remington 700 with the exact same stock. I purchased it because it was highly recommended by a good friend of mine. Everything was spot-on, except for the stock...I do not like the swell either. I thought about taking my dremel to...

    New Stock help, accu stock

I've found many people like these stocks. Personally I was going to order one for my Stevens 200 LA, but apparently Savage / Stevens makes changes to their systems often and without warning. If you go to the link I posted, you'll find all the warnings listed on the website. As I am overseas at...

    Ghillie Suit...Too much?

I think the half suit will work fine, I think those get marketed as "tracker" types. For me, as long as the critters don't know you're there then you know it is working well. I guess it ultimately boils down to personal preference.

    17HMR for hunting.

Hello All, I am sure this thread will generate some very opinionated posts...I recently purchased a Marlin917V topped off with a Redfield 3-9X40 AccuRange reticle. I'll be using Hornady's 17g V-Max exclusively. A Couple of questions here: 1. What type of range can I expect out of this...

    Ghillie Suit...Too much?

Sharpshooter243 makes an excellent point - some suits are hot. I don't know what type material was used when he constructed it, but my guess is an old set of BDUs. I made one many years ago (long gone now) and I used a flight suit, sewed on some netting, used burlap and such for it. I remember...

How heavy a gun is too heavy for hauling?

I think if you're doing a lot of walking, say 8 miles or more a day, then I would suggest staying under 10 pounds scope and all. If you are setting up somewhere and staying there all day, then as heavy as you can carry would be fine. Keep in mind though that you plan on packing more out than in...

Hello all: My name is Alex and I enjoy the outdoors as much as anyone on this site. I have several weapon systems, and I am looking forward to some shooting competitions upon my return from Afghanistan. My personal quest is to build bargain rifles for my friends and family. I hope this is...
