    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

I'll jump in here and say the caliber is so much less important than fitting the rifle to her frame. LOP, cheek weld and weight allow even timid shooters to handle recoil and put them where it counts.

    Help with drop chart

That worked for me on several rifles. Once I get a good group at 100 I move out to 7-800 and shoot a rock wall with book BC and a good estimate of the speed. (buddy accidentally center punched the crony) We used a good camcorder and a 7" display from amazon to refine the point of impact. I then...

    Help with drop chart

Your actual BC can change with twist rate and velocity. I had a long chat with a Hornaday engineer one time about their 180gr eld. In my rifle with a 9.5 twist at 2850 he estimated my bc would be in the high 6's. That estimate is very close to the actual performance I am getting with 180 vld's...

PTG Detachable Bottom Metal Savage Short action

Pacific Tool and Gauge detachable bottom metal for a savage short action with top bolt release. 300 Win Mag or 338 Win Mag

I chase bc and velocity like everyone else, but I ran the numbers on both for a friend. I went into it thinking the old winmag was slow and lame. Pick bullets that work with the design and almost anything north of 223 can be very capable. Honestly pick whatever you can reliably get components...

    Different POI for different shooters

Yup. So easy to burn excessive amounts of powder without a really good cheek weld. Darrel Holland did a cheek weld post some years ago on this forum. Its well worth the read. Short version is that the cheek rest needs to be parallel to the scope axis and you need to be able to smash your cheek...

Low cost 6.5mm Bullet to use for fireforming.

I have always been able to find a pretty solid fire forming load that was close to my final load. The cost of a shot is a lot more than the bullet. Assuming 1500 rounds barrel life, if you bought 200 rounds of brass and got 7-8 firings and a rebarrel cost $700 and you can buy all the powder in...

    Rear Rest Fill

I have had good success with walnut media. Locks down nicely and has a nice balance between light and not too light. Doesn't seem to be affected by moisture.
