Questions & thought's on 6mm for BR and prarrie poodles.

Goodgrouper............ This is getting dumber and dumberer. 1)I don't know where you get your ideas about the desireabity of copper in the bore. Unless something has changed, benchrest shooters clean religiously. You mentioned getting a long hit before your barrel coppered. Is that the...

Questions & thought's on 6mm for BR and prarrie poodles.

Lead Lobber................. A friend told me to check out some of the posts on here. My replies have been only to postings that aren't "longrange hunting" Tactical matches don't really have anything to do with this. I'm talking apples, you're talking oranges. I have good friends who shoot...

Questions & thought's on 6mm for BR and prarrie poodles.

Re: 6mm and prairie dogs...... Of course there are factors involved in barrel heat...and yes a 6mm bore has more surface area to dissipate heat. But bearing surface equals friction and friction equals heat. More powder burned equals more heat. That's physics. It's a stupid thing to argue. Of...

Questions & thought's on 6mm for BR and prarrie poodles.

.223............. I'm not sure why you think .223's "...are not real varmint guns", but I assure you they are. A "real varmint gun" can be used with minimal heat buildup and fouling over a period of time. In many situations, a .223 is THE perfect cartridge...the go-to gun. With 40's and 50's...

Questions & thought's on 6mm for BR and prarrie poodles.

One more thing........ For the 6-250 or 6XC, slower twist is good...12 is about perfect for the bullet weights that work best on prairie dogs.

Questions & thought's on 6mm for BR and prarrie poodles.

6mm and prairie dogs...... Talking prairie dogs, you really do need a .223. It would be your main gun. But since you're talking 6mm..... We were on the never-ending quest for a perfect prairie dog cartridge. Something that shoots flat enough to not need lots of scope adjustments. And since...

one peice or 2 peice base for rem. 788

I've used an aluminum base on a few 788's. They're plenty sturdy and it wouldn't be easy to bend one. I don't recall ever seeing any type of steel Weaver-style base for a 788. One of mine has a Browning steel base with conventional rings. Today, steel 788 bases aren't so easy to find unless you...

    Speer 50gr TNT expansion?

Any varmint bullet will nicely explode small targets. Some are more explosive than others, but it's all satisfying. TNT's have been my bullet of choice for many years because they're real accurate, and the .22's are every so often for sale locally at $70/1000. They're about comparable to a...

Fire Forming 300 Weatherby brass to a 7mm STW

Forming 300 Weatherby brass to a 7mm STW A friend makes 7STW from .300Wby cases and it works well for him. He uses PMC brass which is very strong and allows good velocity. The only downside to PMC brass is, it's not sold anymore. BTW - when necking down, headspace tightly on the shoulder...

    Oh ****

Unless you've some way to get rid of the top layer of powder, it's in there to stay. But Reloder 22 is a slow powder, and slower than Bullseye by just an enormous amount. It's hard to imagine a less than 10% mixture of much-much-much slower powder causing a blowup or other dangerous situation...

Cant with Burris Rings? Fifty Driver, Goodgrouper anybody......

Just remember..... that those Burris inserts aren't MOA, they're thousandths - .005" and .010" for the 30mm, and MOA will vary with the distance between rings.

    new to wildcatting...help!

Not to worry............ The .243AI is a good cartridge. It's not a wildcat...factory ammunition can be fired in the chamber which makes it an "improved" and not a wildcat. Forming brass is easy - it's really just loading and shooting. DON'T use pistol powder or reduced loads or any of that...

Ultimate Long Range Moderate recoil Deer Round

When you start talking about "ultimate", everyone has their own ideas about what's best. Depends on your criteria. I've known Keith Candler for many years and what he's said is exactly right. He knows what he's talking about, and he's also not trying to peddle anything. Both my .257Wby's were...

    Lothar Walther barrels

Lothar Walther barrels ...... I use 2 Walther barrels and think they're excellent. One is their 10/22 barrel chambered for .22Mag, and it shoots very well with several different brands. The other is a 22-250AI and that barrel is just amazing. I did no break-in...the first 35 rounds were load...
