    Reading Pressure

I get what you are saying. So you understand that using strain gauges has limitations for this application, and that's why labs use chamber transducers. But some people don't.

    Reading Pressure

FYI - Pressure Trace uses strain gauges, which are not piezoelectric sensors. Strain gauges are glued to the exterior of the barrel and measure strain (tension, compression, or no change) in that specific location. A strain gauge does not directly measure chamber pressure, but can be used to...

    Scope field evaluations on rokslide

I think that you have a good perspective for your situation. And someone that does a quick impact check, that might be good for their situation. I don't have a problem with the RS drop standard, as they call it, either. The at-home drop experiment can lead to overconfidence though, as you...

    Scope field evaluations on rokslide

Recoil most definitely matters. And it happens every time it is fired (i.e. it cannot be avoided). Impacts depend on the operator (i.e. it can be eliminated, mostly). I have not seen PRS shooters abuse their rifles, but maybe you have. What sort of abuse have you seen? Looking briefly at...

    Scope field evaluations on rokslide

Sort of. You are not going to accelerate wear-out failures by dropping the scope, per se. There's minimal recoil involved, depending on exact procedure, and that is probably a bigger factor for most people. Not drops. But there is some anecdotal observations between scopes that last and those...

    Scope field evaluations on rokslide

I think that you have made some great points about shooting form, but he posted a group with the new scope that looked good. We don't know if the shooting rests changed between new scope and old, or if he went from being a bad shooter to all of a sudden being good, but I think it is not...

    Scope field evaluations on rokslide

PRS cartridges are generally low recoil. High round counts sure, but low magnitude, on heavy rifles. Also, many of the top shooters are sponsored by companies that sell scopes. There are a few obvious concerns regarding impartially there, in terms of following their choices.

    Scope field evaluations on rokslide

By scope creep, do you mean the tube slipping and moving relative to the ring? I have used Signature and Signature XTR rings a quite a bit with no issues too. But I have not had them in super cold temperatures. That's my only concern, but it might be unfounded. I have used them on fairly...

Thanks for the details, Tony. Seems like a heck of a tumble. Glad it wasn't worse for you, or the gear!

Compact Rifle Scopes - What Are You Sacrificing?

It might, but 20 MOA isn't that much in my mind so the 10x zoom might contribute to the issue as well. I'd just spin the turret and see if the view improves.

Compact Rifle Scopes - What Are You Sacrificing?

I am not an optical engineer or technician, but as I understand it you obviously need to manipulate light inside any optical device and the shorter the device the more severe the angle and possibly the number of lenses. That makes for a more complicated scope to design, and assemble correctly...

Tony, Was that the scope that would not hold zero after you fell? If so, would you describe the impact? Jason

    Scope field evaluations on rokslide

No doubt that they made some junk. I live near a company that makes scopes and could drive there blind folded from dropping off and picking up warranty returns so many times. Would love to support the local company but myself and friends wrote them off several years ago. Has nothing to do...

    Scope field evaluations on rokslide

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing! Awhile back, Benny Hill used and suggested a low cost Simmons shotgun scope for competition. Not the comedian but the 3Gun shooter! Anyway, if I recall correctly he was using that Simmons on his AR and not his shotgun. Not a ton of recoil or extreme...
