Just by the numbers, the 270 with a matrix 165 is very formidible. To do better ballistically you need a bullet with a BC over .638 and over 2850 fps. That puts you in big dog 300 rum or 338 teritory

Apples to cranberries comparo here but with my 27" 270 shooting 165s, I ended up with H1000 and then Retumbo. Heavy bullets and the long barrel wanted a much slower than normal powder.

9 twist 5R is good. There is a thread about my buld somewhere on this site. Been pushing the 165s to 2850 with 59.5 grains of Retumbo. It works really well. Been to 1400 yards and this rifle iis one wicked shooter

Yep slow powders work well. Using a stiff load of Retumbo now. 60.7 grains. About 2890 fps.

I can't go over 57.5 grains of H1000 without overly flattening primers and occationally getting some gas leakage around the primer. These loads the 165 Matrix at 2840. I am starting to transition over to Retumbo for these loads...I can get some additional velocity...close to 2890 before I get...
