I can't take the time to read all the posts but if this is a Remington pump or semi a
uto 7400 series then they are press in barrels. As time passes along with use they will fail accuracy wise expanitionaly more than screw in barrels. It's just a fact and at this point and I don't mess with...
Not as good as other more powerful/capable cartridges but sure if you dot every I and cross every T. I actually think it's a better option than 6.5 creed within those confines if reloading close to max capabilities. I much prefer other more capable cartridges like 7mm mag/280ai or above if...
As always don't want to start a political/cartridge debate, especially related to ethically killing deer (which is easy). There's so many great calibers from 243 or 25-06 to my favorite for everything 35 whelen. Find a historical cartridge or obvious new caliber that will do the job within your...
35 whelen
Super efficient cartridge! With recently developed load data you can launch 225grain bullets at 2800fps, 200gr at 2900 and 180gr at 3100. All out of a necked up 30-06. Great/ hammers all north American big game. Drop is minimal out to 300
Any weight of original power belt 50 cals for muzzleloading. (I was young) Never occurred to me on the first few deer that they never existed on perfect behind shoulder shots. Then I took a shoulder shot and watched the big buck bite at where he was hit then run off. Found a small chunk of bone...
Hodgdon lists 39.3 as max load for h414/win760 & 130 nos accubond. HNDY data 129gr interlock with h414/win 760 has a max of 46.0. HNDY say max velocity 2900fps with 46gr. Hodgdon says 2693 max with 39.3. Just to make it interesting Nosler data says 44 gr with max velocity of 2900fps with 130gr...
Hard to beat RL16 for 6.5/creed or 7mm-08. Especially compared to short barrels and slower burn rate powders. Heck it's one of my best performers in any caliber that traditionally likes imr/ H4350 like 30-06 270, 280 and so on. Hasn't been quick to pressure and is pretty temp stable
Hard to decide between Ruger No1 in 762 39 (so stinking handy, cheap to shoot and actually really accurate) and my first deer rifle which was a Ruger M77 mkII 30-06 stainless that shot factory ammo lights out. Easy to look back and know you screwed up when you can't remember the gun you sold it...
I recently built a low budget 35 whelen on a savage action. I love 35 whelen now! Its not exactly long range but might be the most efficient caliber power wise inside of 200 yards. I'm getting 2800 plus fps with 225 nosler Accubond and speer 220 hot cor using Aliant Power Pro Varmint at around...
Originally a Tikka T3 lite 30-06. Southern Precision Rifles/bugholes.com built it for me. Stayed with 30-06. Bell and Carlson stock skim bedded, Bartlein barrel (Originally had it at 26" without a brake, now it's 24" with blended brake), dnz tactical scope mount and Vortex HST scope. I know it...
A lightweight 30-06 firing 150gr all copper bullet behind RL16 or H4350 is hard to beat out to 600 with a 22" barrel. 150gr copper 308s have pretty good velocity/power out to 500 for sure and required speed could be accomplished with 20" barrel. Nothing wrong with a lighter 280 build and just...
