First let me say, I prefer a 2# to no more than a 2.5# trigger. I do not want less than 2#. Yeah I know, I'm particular...

History: I currently am shooting a Rem SA with the X-Mark Pro trigger and to be honest, I can't stand it. When shooting, it feels like it breaks at 2# one time, then 4# the next time. I can set at the work bench with a gage on the trigger and have it break consistently, however with a case in the chamber and when shooting, it feels like it breaks very inconsistently. Rather its me or, rather its reality, I'm not satisfied.

That said, I'm considering a Timney. The Timney 512 adjustable from 1.5# to 4#, where the Calvin Elite is adjustable from 8oz to 2.5#.

As I prefer the 2 to 2.5# pull, would I be better with the 512 trigger and the pull on the low end of the adjustment or, the Calvin Elite with the pull at the upper end of the adjustment? (Remington SA)

Timney makes good triggers and I use lots of them if I can't get a Jewell.

If you are picky about triggers, I highly recommend a Jewell. Once you get a Jewell you will never be satisfied with anything else.

Jewell has the trigger you want for a 700 Remington. depending on the model, they will go well below 8 Oz.

I like the hunter varmint that comes with a safety and three sets of springs (They change out
easy) and it has three ranges, 1.5 to 4 pounds.

Thank you for the feedback. I really don't want to go under 2# on the trigger, which will not be for benchrest shooting but, will be for target and hunting. The 700 Remington action is the X40 on an Ultimate Firearms rifle. I need the safety. I'm not a smith, just a serious shooter.

Get the Jewell. Even if you never set it below 2# it's hands down top of the line and will make you wonder what you were doing messing around with a X-Mark Pro. Next below that is the Shilen Std Trigger. You'd need a safety kit from Rifle Basix and a bolt release . Will run in the neighborhood of $150 if you can do the work yourself. JMO

Another advantage to the Jewell is that It has bushings where the pins go keeping the trigger together without having to hold the sear down to insert the pins that hold it to the action.

It is very simple. after removing the old trigger, simply place the Jewell in its proper place and tap the pins in. (Almost anyone can install a Jewell in the action).

I recommend getting the Hunter Varmint with the safety and bolt release installed. also you can have the factory pre-set the weight for you if you want to.

Note; some stocks will interfere with the safety linkage in the front of the trigger and have to be cleared (Very little on most).

I use Timney triggers in my three Rem 700 hunting rifles. I set them to 2.5-3 lbs depending on the rifle. They installed easy and work great. All did require dremel relief machining in the stocks, and on two of the rifles I had to slightly relieve the trigger guard too. They work for me and are a significant upgrade compared to stock Rem triggers.

If you are very picky and really want the best, I'd go with the Jewel like everyone else recommended. I have shot with Jewel triggers on other people's rifles and yes, they are what people say. If you just want to make a good, cost effective upgrade, the Timney will not disappoint.

Go with a Jewell or original Remington trigger (Pre X-Mark Pro). The Remington can be adjust to 2-2.5 lbs safely by somebody that knows what they are doing and the Jewell.....well, they are as good as triggers get. The only downside with the Jewell is that they can be more problematic when they get crap in them. I'm not a big fan of the Timney.

Well finding a Jewell is almost impossible around here, so I ordered the Timney which should be here soon.

I just want a trigger that breaks with the same feel each and every time.

A Timney 512 purchased and should be here Monday. Purchased it NEW IN UNOPENED PACKAGE, cheaper than retail.

Thanks for all the recommendations and suggestions gun)
