Good morning gentlemen and ladies. I come to you from the fresh air of freedom in the Republic of Texas.
After high school, I joined the U.S. Army, the beginning of all useful knowledge. After BCT, AIT, OCS, Officer Basic, a very educational platoon command, law school, a branch transfer from the CE to the JAGC, more military education, a tour as an Aide-de-Camp, and a couple of tours in crumby places, became a special agent with the INS, but remained in the reserves. Twenty-three years later, I retired from federal law enforcement and the reserves (32 years Army and Army Reserve).
On that day, I went from being in charge of a lot to stressful things to being in charge of my pet dog. And I realized that I didn't know anything about anything. So far I have learned that when building a house, your contractor will sell you enough building material to build three houses, there are places where you can still buy a firearm at a garage sale, and in Texas, all your neighbors will come up to your house and introduce themselves.
