New kid in town here shopping for a packable functional durable CLEAR spotting scope. At the moment I am torn between the Vortex Razor HD 11-33x50 and the Leupold GR 15-30x50 compact.

Of course, I am also open to any suggestions from someone more experienced. I have come down to these two because of size weight and quality but I have no way to set the two up for side by side comparison. Just hoping someone else might have a few thoughts on the subject.

Thanks

BS

I use a Minox MD50. For $219 you can't beat it. Paired with a Vortex Summit SS tripod you have a nice lightweight spotter and tripod.

Minox - Camera Land NY

My brother in law was looking at the Razor 50 and took my Minox to compare them. He said the Razor was better but he wasn't sure it was that many hundred dollars better. He didn't buy the razor.

I use a Minox MD50. At $219 it was everything I was needing. I used it last season and it was plenty clear for me. The 50mm objective didn't let much light in early in the morning or late at night but I never had a problem with it as when I couldn't see well with the spotter I couldn't see well with my rifle scope either so I wasn't out anything. Paired with a Vortex Summit SS tripod and it is a very lightweight setup. Cameraland has them on an Open Box/Demo deal for $219.

Thanks for the input! The best price I have found on the Vortex is $599. While leupold can be had for $359 with free shipping and a free stedi stock. So, I am leaning toward the leupold because I'm not sure that the vortex is $200+ better. although I have yet to actually put a vortex (of any kind) in my hands and look one over so I am going into this a bit blind.

I was looking at this one as well I ended up deciding to go with the 16-48x65 razor and im glad I did the extra magnification is amazing and you are not giving up to much in regards to weight I packed it all last season and you dont even realize it is there but when you pull it out it is awesome spotting game a mile or more away. Good luck with your choice!
