OK not sure if this is a good place for this thread or not but we'll start somewhere. While there is plenty of load data on 6.5 STW, I am trying to decide whether or not the 6.5 STW or a 26 Nosler would be a good build. So I'm just looking for pros and cons. So if anyone has any experience with the Nosler please let me know.

If barrel life is any sort of factor, I'd look more to the .264 Win Mag. It won't have great barrel life, but better than both of your first 2 options.

You could always just go with a straight-forward 7mm STW, which also will shoot some high BC heavy weight bullets.

In QuickLoad, they are OMG so close with a 130 Accubond and Retumbo. Same charge, for all practical purposes, same velocity. Reloadersnest listings agree with my QL for the STW.

IMO: Your decision will have to be made on something other than ballistics.

Of course if it were me, it would be 26 Nosler but I'd trust MudRunner2005 about the 6.5 STW or 7mm STW.

Belted or not is pretty much it AFIK

Same charge
Same bullet
Same twist
same
same
same

Same wait for a custom gun
Same need to handload.

Does Nosler have data for the 26 Nosler cartridge? I am trying to locate data for the 6.5 STW and have the rifle ready to go and have tried to load up some bullets to shoot. But only have the 7 STW data to go by.

Nosler told me they will release load data as soon as they can verify it's safety in the just barely completed new head stamped brass.

I checked this site and they showed 0 info on the 6.5 STW or 26 Nosler. Really getting desperate here.

Scroll down to the unverified loads.

You are entering the wildcat world. Your load data is going to have to come from sharing (the unverified loads) and trials. There are books, sites and 'rule of thumb'.

Im pretty much with mudrunner aswell but if I had to pick one of those two today I would go with the stw just because of brass availability but if brass were readily available for the nosler I would prob got with it because the lack of the belt like most have said performance will be a wash between the two

26 Nosler brass is in stock at Midway. $65.99 for 25. Same price as Nosler 7mm WSM for 25.

I find it to be well prepared brass, yes, a little soft.

$2 less than STW brass. Of course the Remington STW brass is less than $1 per vs Nosler ~$2.50 per but of course then you have sorting, prepping and culls, though Remington seems to give an extra or 2 to cover the culls.

Well I like the input here so far. I already own a custom 264 Win Mag. But I am a 6.5 nut anyway. The Nosler is definitely the new cartridge on the block and will be up and coming in the availability of brass. The STW is available. I heard Nemo Arms was sent a reamer from Nosler so we may see something there for the semi auto crowd which should be cool, I hear they have been testing a prototype since August 2013. I would like to get behind a bolt gun in both calibers as the older I get the less beat up I like to become. So I may just go the other direction as the 6.5-06 or 6.5 Sherman short. All these calibers would do whatever I want however I would like to have a wow factor and a lot of fun. Thanks for the input.

Todd the reason I choose the 6.5 STW route was Midway had the reamers and the Dies, I already had 500 new unprimed pieces of 8 mag brass. If you watch or look at the cost of Noslers brass and the cost of there loaded ammo that was enough to help me make my choice.
