I have the opportunity to buy a Ruger M77 II wood and blue steel that comes with 30mm rings. The 30mm rings isn't a problem as I have a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x32mm that I think would go on perfectly. The guy wants $650 for the gun, 100 pieces of twice fired in that gun R-P brass and Redding dies. I think it's a decent deal, but the other kicker is he has a box of 500 brand new R-P brass never fired he'd sell for an extra $250. Think it's a good deal?

The thing about the SAUM calibers is that brass is hard to find. So, with that being said, and the fact that he has 500 pieces of brand new brass for it, I'd say jump on it, if you like the gun, caliber, and how it shoots. Not a bad deal either since it comes with nice set of Redding dies.

I haven't seen or handled the gun, so I don't feel right telling someone how to spend their money on a used gun...But if I were in your shoes, and looking for that rifle in that caliber...This would be a deal I would strongly consider, especially since he has more than enough brass to shoot out that barrel.

That was my thought. 100 pieces of twice fired brass with only 200 shots down the tube and 500 more brand new pieces for $250. That's not bad at all. 600 pieces total. That's something.

That is a pretty good deal, but here is something to think about. Norma makes 300 SAUM brass ,which sometimes takes a bit to get in stock, but it is FAR superior to RP brass! It will last far longer, it is more consistent, and has greater capcity. You could take the $250 you are spending for 500 RP cases and buy 200 Norma and have some some change. They will outlast the 500 RP cases and you will be happier. If it were me, I would go ahead with the twice fired RP until you can round up some Norma.......Rich

I've never cared for Norma but that's just me. If Lapua made it, heck yeah, I'd buy all I could get me hands on. I bought it today anyways. It's going to be used mainly as a 300 yard elk gun at that.

Thats why they make fords AND chevies! All I can tell you is I use both Norma and RP in SAUM caes for my 6.5 SS and the Norma is FAR better!

Now looking back on your first post, you mentioned something about how Norma had more case "capacity" than Remington. This statement actually surprises me. I've always found that Remington could hold a few more grains of powder than most other brass makers. Especially in a .308 Winchester. I could get in 2 more grains of powder compared to Lapua when using Remington brass.

Heck, I use whatever I can get and form for several of my rifles. For my .308...I am a Lapua snob. But for my .25-06 AI, I use some cheap 1x fired .270 Win that I bought for $23/100 shipped. Bought 200. That should last me a while.

For my .30-06 AI I use free range pickups that I saved over the years and cleaned up. Nothing like free brass.

For my magnums I try to use only Nosler or Norma/Weatherby.

The only brass I have had repeated issues with is some old Federal brass in my 7mm STW. Quite a few had case-head seperations after 4 firings. Now that I've swapped to Nosler, no more issues.
