Imr 4895

Anybody seen any on the shelves? I have been looking for months! Went into two shops last week and they had every **** IMR version except 4895.. Salesperson said he hasn't seen any for upwards of three years....??? Would like to work up some for my 7-08 and 140 gr Sierra Pro Hunters in my Rem 700 Ti... Have a load that is essentially one hole, MV at 2660 using 4064. Looking for 2800 if I can and 4895 seems the perfect fit for the -08.

Yep, cast bullet manufacturer here also sells some types of reloading supplies. Last weekend they had about 6 1lb jugs each of IMR-4895, IMR-4064, and another IMR powder with a light greenish label, didn't catch the number. Bought a jug of 4895 just because you never seem to see it often, and a brick of WLR primers. I have an 8lb jug already which I picked up a few months back at Sportsman's Warehouse. Also grabbed two jugs of 4064 a couple weeks ago from them. I'm doing OK on rifle powder for now, but will buy more if I have the funds.

What they can't seem to get is pistol powders.

No insult meant but there is your reason that you can't find the powders you want. People purchasing powder just because it is on the shelf when they already have more than they will shoot up in a year or two or a lifetime sitting at home.

There are a many powders that will get to 2800 with 140s in a 7-08. I have done it with H4350, IMR4350, H414, IMR4007 and varget. I have also seen it done with Big Game, MR2000, CFE223, Rl-15 and several Norma powders so I would think you should find something that will work.

No insult taken. I don't know how much you shoot, but that is really not a lot of powder for a 30cal reloader. With the charge weights I use, each pound should yield around 168 finished rounds. I shoot between 100 and 150 rounds per range trip, just out of one 308 bolt gun. I'm thinking of picking up the wife one also, so that would mean more reloading supplies will be needed. It's warming up, and that means weekly range trips.

It is OK if you are doing a bunch of shooting and using up the powder but I know people and read of people that have hundreds of pounds of powder and are still grabbing everything they can. They will never be able to shoot that much up in two lifetimes. I want even get into those that have horded up thousands of rounds of 22lr ammo. It is as scarce as hens teeth around were I live. Primers are in abundance but you can't find powder.

I was without my favorite powder for a while the I researched others and found different makes that got me where I needed to be but when I see my favorite I buy as much as I can afford I'm not going to run out again if I can help it if my favorite powder is gone I have others that work so oh well I look at it "the early bird gets the worm"

Agreed on the favorite concept...I have several others that probably would do what I want, 3031, 4350 BLC2, etc. just annoying! Echo some others, after the primer fiasco, I also "stocked up"!

While not exactly the same as IMR4895 you can use H4895 if you can find some. I actually like H4895 a little better than the IMR version. You can also use AA2495 which Accurate developed to mimic the pressure curve of IMR4895. It's also very close to IMR4895. Then there is AA2520 which is the ball powder equivalent of AA2495 and also very close to IMR4895. I know it's not exactly what you're looking for but all are very good substitutes and will keep you shooting during the powder drought.

kyrifleman, let me know how 140's work in your Ti. I have the same rifle and have not even bothered with 140's because of the mag length 2.800. Max col in my gun is around 3.10. Found a good load with 120 nosler BT though. Thanks

That is my philosophy; " find something that will work." I went to the gun shop yesterday to specifically get H4895, (or IMR 4895 but they didn't have any so I saw some SuperPreformance for $5 cheaper than the other powders, so I bought 2lbs.
My ladder test looks promising.

Asa soon as it stops raining I'll break out the chronograph and test the load.

Thanks! Saw some H4895 last week and passed it up. Also, thanks on the AA powders.....have never used them, now will be a good time to try.

Have used 140's exclusively...started with the Remington factory loads because I bought the rifle during PA bear season in 2000 I think....it was right after they came on the market. Killed a couple of does that year all was well. Then started looking for reloading "stuff", tried some 140 Barnes XLC because I had a couple hundred on hand. Barnes load recommendations with H380 put them all over the target. Scrapped. Then used some Hornaday 139 Light Mag...groups about 2 inches, but sure killed the deer right now. Got an honest 2950 fps with these. Really had problems obtaining any suitably accurate load, so I did the Tubbs 50 round fire polish and then things started to come around. It still doesn't like the Lite Mags but groups are closer. Tried the Sierra 140 Pro Hunter because it will accommodate the short OAL due to flat base and traditional lead core. 42 gr gives me around 2660 fps, essentially a one hole. Planning on going up to about 44-45 to see if there is another node. I will sacrifice a bit of group size for fps because This is my all day carry, or my 280 Mtn, for PA deer and bear.
I have modified the rifle, McMillan Hunters Edge stock, bottom metal from Brownells to make it a BDL, never really liked the blind magazine, and a Jewell trigger. Ready to go, right at 6 pounds. At my age, that's enough. Sorry for the long winded reply, in short speak, 140's have done quite well in this rifle.
