Powder for a 338 RUM

What would you recommended for a 338 RUM shooting 300 grain AB's

I have been very happy with H1000 in my 338 RUM shooting 300gr SMKs. I'm getting a validated 2,734 fps with a max load out of a 26" barrel.

2 powders come to mind. 7828 ssc is a very good powder in the 338 rum. It's a very stable, slow burning powder that delivers consistency shell after shell. Meters extremely well too. I use 88 grains behind a 265 LRX bullet and have had amazing results. I would also not hesitate to work up a RL 33 load. This is the cream of the crop as far as over bore mags go. Of course that is my opinion. As mentioned, H1000 is also a great powder.

What is the main difference between. 7828 and 7828ssc As I see both and both are available right now

The ssc stands for "super short cut". IMR cut the sticks to make them meter better making for a more consistent charge. Burn rates are the same. I switched to the ssc because I found it compressed better on compressed loads. Also, the metering is so much better.

I just went to there reloading site and they did not list 7828 for 300 grain bullets
any ideas on where i could find some

I had Barnesuser28 look with me and we couldn't find any data that was clear and precise. It would be a educated guess at best. So instead of guessing and someone getting hurt, it's just safe to say we couldn't find any. Sorry...

I get almost identical velocities with H1000 or Retumbo. 31" barrel , 300 grain AB, Nosler custom brass, CCI mag primer, 89 grains of either and 2810 fps. I feel Retumbo might group slightly better but they are very close.
