Gunna do some shoppin when i get home this weekend...and "search" wont work on my phone...

Ive got a box of 100 210g Bergers for my 300wsm, a bunch of winchester brass and a savage model 12lrp with a 26" tube....
As i already know powder and primers can be hard to find so what options will work the best and what will be ok... need somethin that will be fairly temp stable as once i get a good load worked up it needs to work good from 90* down to -10*( my personal limits) i know there will be some variance with those temps but i dont want somethin thats gunna shoot bug holes during the summer but just falls outa the barrel during the winter...lookin for speeds of 2800+ out of it...

Any opinions are apreciated!

I've never loaded for a 300WSM but if I was going to I would probably use H4831.

Thanks!
Im thinkin if i can find any either 4831 or 7828ssc....what else is in the range of burn rates with those? Its probly gunna be a grab what i can and make it work....

Not to highjack or anything, but I was looking at the burnrate chart from hodgdon.. Reloader 12? I've never even heard of that...

I know you want max temp insensitivity, but RL-17 pushes the 210 VLD very well out of a 300 WSM. I get 2850 FPS, but do have a deep throat. I have seen nothing else push it that fast. H4350 would get me about 2750. Both powders can be very accurate.

My pet load for my 300wsm was 210 berger behind 60 gr h4350 210m primer Win brass. It was not the fastest load but by far the most consistent for my rifle. If my memory is still there I was getting just shy of 2800 on an 80 deg day and around 2675 at around 20 deg. If you want more speed and temp stable I would look at H4831sc, H1000, or Retumbo I was able to get 2900 fps with these powders from a 26 tube. Most were at pressure limits and none of them were as concistant with my rifle. Another issue you may have is finding any of the powders listed here. Good luck.

It seems that the "go to" powder for us 1000 yard BR guys is H4350. I buy it by the ton now!! :D But, I have about 8 WSM comp tubes to shoot it up in.

Codyjoel, tried the 210 Berger VLDs in my hunting pal's 300WSM with H4831SC, H1000 and 7828SSC. He was not pleased with the accuracy after 15 different loads. His gunsmith friend gave him 30 185 Berger VLDs and said try these with H4350. This load was sub-MOA at 200 yards. Rifle is Savage 111 stainless with bedded laminated stock. Some rifles like some loads, some don't. This is what worked for him. Now he has tracked down a few hundred 185 VLDs and 4 pounds same lot H4350. We were both drawn for elk in October and we'll be ready. Good luck

Right now if you are shopping, the options are limited as we all know. IMR 7828ssc, Norma MRP and Norma 217 are somewhat available. Hodgdon Extreme powders are not to be found. I don't have a 300wsm but I load for a 7wsm. I have used 7828 quite a bit in many calibers and like it. MRP and 217 I just ordered tonight. 217 is supposed to be temp insensitive if you believe the marketing. It was developed for the 30-378 Wby so the burn rate is slow, similar to RL25.

I live in ND so I'll find out this year about the temp sensitivity part....

This is from a Savage 300 WSM LRH. Stock out of the box.

Thanks guys... got home and just had to look some stuff over, slightly denting a fired case and puttin a berger in it just too see how deep they would be seated and wow am i gunna want to ream my throat, good news is if i jam them like that they will still fit in the mag, bad news im gunna loose capacity.......did figure out why the HSM loaded 168g bergers shot so well, not much jump...

Thanks!

Well, there's ALOT inbetween IMR 4831 and IMR 7828 in the burn chart. 4831 ranks # 121, and 7828 ranks # 132.

If you want something inbetween those 2, you got VihtaVuori N160, Hodgdon H4831, Hodgdon SUPERFORMANCE, Norma MRP, Alliant Reloder 22, Viht N560, and Viht N165.
