Model seven ?s

My son has a model seven in 243 Im in the process of refinishing the stock for him. I would like to get him a newer remington trigger the one on it now is realy bad. Will a regular Remington 700 trigger work? Also I would like to see about buying a remington 700 take off barrel for it and was wondering if a good smith could make that work. ? The gun never has been very accurate. Thanks in advance for the help

What is wrong with the trigger?

Is accuracy bad with factory and handloads?

My sons Model 7 does good for a hunting rifle. I'm in the process of seeing if I can increase the accuracy with some different loads.
The trigger has been replaced due to the safety breaking. I just had another factory trigger installed so I am not sure if they are interchangable.

I don't know what you are feeding that model 7 but I have seen these rifles in other calibers that were tack drivers. I traded for one that I gifted my daughter in 7mm08 that will shoot .25MOA with a handload I developed for it. Also, if the trigger is that bad why not spend $135 and install a Timney? You will never get a factory Rem trigger tuned to break like a Timney or Jewell trigger.

Get a Jewell trigger.

Don't waste your time with factory take off. Put a custom number 4 sorter on it.

A 700 trigger will work, but on a timney, you may have to modify the bolt release mechanism. Also, the safety on a timney is a little wider than a Model 7 factory safety so you may have to slightly inlet the stock so the trigger won't bind. A 700 barrel should work. If I went with a custom, personally I wouldn't want anything larger than a #3. But that's personal preference.

Also, if on your factory trigger the bolt release mechanism rides on the trigger and the bolt stop is held in with a separate third, short pen and not by one of the two pins that hold the trigger (like on a 700), a Jewell trigger won't work. With the Jewell, there's no way to attach the factory mechanism. At least there wasn't on the one I tried.

I used a regular 700 trigger on mine and switched the safety from my model 7 onto it. Jewell does make a trigger for the model 7 with a safety already on it. Not sure if Rifle Basix makes one for the7 but you can use your safety, I do like them better than the timineys.

Timney now has a model 7 specific trigger.
