I recently used my Cabelas gift cards to buy a Savage 10PC. in 308 I bought it for several reasons:

1 - Had gift cards at cabelas.
2 - Didn't own a savage.
3 - Gun has a magazine
4 - Barrel was threaded to accept a suppressor.
5 - Savage easy to re-barrel if it didn't shoot great.
6- Accustock pretty nice for a factory beater.
7 - Even with 20 heavy barrel still 2# lighter than my 7mm rem mag.

After purchase I took a Rem 700 in 308 that never shot better then 1-1.5 moa on a good day (glassbedded, custom trigger, etc) and was inconsistent and took the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18 from it and swapped it to the savage.

Then off to the range!

I shot 3 kinds of ammo.
Box 1 - Wolf 150 gr - Found in a drawer and left over from some 1919 belt fed fun
Box 2 - American Eagle 150 Gr FMJ BT - A half box likely left over from who knows.
Box 3 - Silver State Armory 168 gr SSA HPBT - Only box of 308 on shelf the day I got the rifle.

Shot three shot groups with each box on teh barrel as recieved with cooling between groups. Then ran a 22 bore snake through (took the wrong one with to range) and shot three more groups in reverse order.

The accuracy potential is super!
Results were:
Group 1 - 2.5" - Wolf
Group 2 - 2.2" - American Eagle
Group 3 - 0.9" - Silver State
Group 4 - .25" - Silver State - Due to paper feathering exact size hard to call
Group 5 - 1.9" - American Eagle
Group 6 - 5.2" - Wolf

This was done in 20+ mph wind off a bipod (and I have not shot in over a year due to moving)

Later in the day I went out again and shot 3 groups with the SSA and all were about 3/4". May have done better but winds were up at about 36 mph and even after taking my ball cap off so my head would stop bobbing that's all I could manage!

Cant wait to finish breaking in the barrel and seeing if it really can be a consistent moa gun.

WIll update in a month or so when the range is no longer under water.

Mine makes clover leaf groups all day long! Love it and hope you have as much fun as I do with mine. Loves 168 gr AMAX and 45 grains of Varget...

Pretty much likes anything you put in it! Congrats on the new toy!:D

Got a Savage Precision Carbine last fall....just getting around to working up loads.

Tried your 45gr Varget with 168 A-Max. WOW +2

Really like these Precision Carbines.

RL15 and Varget are hard to find. I have a fair amount of Varget but have started playing with IMR4064, just a suggestion. Try 41.8 with 175's and 42.8 with 168's. My PC just got an upgrade:

Hopefully will see how it does this weekend!

The M118LR long range military round uses 41.7gr of IMR4064 with the 175 Sierra. That particular load shoots good in every 308 I have used it in but not better than some other combinations I have tried.
