Sightron S-Tac 2.5-17.5x56?

The scope weighs too much for my style of backpack hunting. 30.6 oz. But it could be a pretty nice option if you're young or not backpack hunting. That's a nice, covers most needs, power magnification range.

Even their 6-24x50mm SIIIs are now listed at 24 oz. They used to list the weight as 21.9 oz - as I remember. I own three of their 6x24x50mm SIIIs. They must have increased the thickness of their 30 mm aluminum scope tubes on the 30 mm SIII scopes. Better for strength and toughness, but getting pretty heavy for backpacking.

I've been hoping for a 4-16x50mm for several years now in their SIII series. Not happening so far. It's either 3.5x10 or all the way up to 6x24 variable powers.

I spoke with liberty optics and they said this is a great scope. About half of the first production batch had problems with tracking but the problem has been fixed and the new scopes should have no problems.

Anybody have personal experience with the S Tac scopes ?

I have done all the utube/ web surfing and just want opinions from the users..

I currently have the Slll 6-24x and the glass is superior compared to my 2 Vortex PST's and 1 HST scopes, especially when cranked to the highest power !
looking at the low power setting of 2.5 and 56mm objective this baby gonna be bright, and still have the high mag setting (17.5X) for longer range pokes... weight is not an issue as this is an atv/gunboot to location type of hunt

anybody ?

will have a new in box Vortex HST 4-16x VRMOA up for sale if I pull the trigger on the S Tac

Personally I would buy the Sightron SIII 6.5 to 24 X 50 in Single Focal Plane with their MOA-2 reticle.
Great scope, rugged, totally reliable tracking and takes one hell of a beating by several big magnums here and just delivers.

I bought the S-Tac about a month ago. I do love the scope. I posted a review on this site about it: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f18/sightron-s-tac-review-149971/

I put the scope on a POF 308 and it has served me well. I have an SIII 6-24 and the glass seems to be about the same to my eyes. The S-Tac has a HUGE bell on it but it is bright. I prefer the SIII on my bolt action rifles but I rarely use anything over 16X magnification. The S-Tac has better turrets. I am very satisfied with the S-Tac and am glad I purchased it. At 30oz it isn't ideal for a pack rifle but the power range is awesome and it seems to track and hold zero very well.
