Ive seen some older post with people using magpro with their 270WSM's....has there been more that have used it and if so what kind of results have you gotten? I was thinking about shooting the 140 AB....

I have loaded Magpro behind both 140 TSX, and 140 Accubonds. My Winchester Model 70 with a 24 inch barrel produced 3150+ ft/sec with both bullets. My accuracy was not quite as good as it is with IMR-4350 or RL-22, but Magpro seems to work best at or near the max. loads, and it does give very good velocity out of the 270WSM's.

Just don't use fed primers and magpro. I tossed a half pound of magpro some years back as we were having hangfires in multiple calibers (including the 270 wsm and 7rem) using it. Later I called sierra on data for wssm's when they came out, and spoke with them about magpro also; it seems there is an issue with the chemistry of the two not playing well together. He said to go to win or cci and you would likely be fine; by then the powder was in the trash though.

Lefty,

That is quite interesting. I have always used WLRM primers with Magpro without problems. I just went back to the data from Accurate Arms when they were selling Magpro and found that they used WLR primers, so I probably do not need to use the mag primer.gun)

have to kinda wonder where that information came from. I don't shoot the WSM, but use Magpro, and like it. I use it in the 270mag as an alternate to 3100, and yes I use Federal primers with zero problems. I have used CCI and some Winchester primers as well. Magpro (for me) seems to work best with heavy bullets, and found the 150 grain bullet to be best so far.

I use MagPro in my 270 WSM with 130, 140 and 150 bullets all shooting well
Have used Federal and Winchester Mag primers both without a problem.
MagPro is good, but I think it is very dirty burning. And yes it likes a Max load.

Tricky, the hang fires were with our rifles and fed primers. When I wiggle the little lever on the bottom on a 7mag (or my dad does on his 270wsm) and it takes a second or two to blow there are issues. I wasn't sure what caused the issues as it was only with that powder and really didn't care... still don't. I'm not a fan of slow ball type powders though I use a couple on occasion. They often burn dirty and have little application that a stick powder can't beat save for pushing a case that's a bit small for the performance you are looking for. I was just relating an experience we had with someone's explanation of the likely culprit.

I was trying magpro in my 270WSM 140g AB's and fed primers. I could not get any consistency with it, like 100fps spread. But now you have me thinking about the Fed primer thing. I may go back and try it again with cci's.
