Here is my new stick! (it is on here in the reloading section as I had started loading ammo before I even had the build done, but here it is in all its glory!)

It's alive! Action finally showed and got this beast put together! Looking forward to sending some rounds down range! See how far we can push our ELR game! Stiller TAC 408 action, Benchmark no contour 1.250" Barrel sprial fluted, Ross Schuler Brake, Jewel Trigger, McRee Chassis in multi-cam by Custom Gun Coatings, 7 Round Mag, Atlas Bipod, BT accu-shot mono-pod, McRee stock pack, Ivey 150 MOA rings, Stiller 20 MOA base, NF 8x32x56 scope. Going to run 350 grain SMK's and see how far we can push those before I try any of the solids. She is a beauty!

***Decided against the Ivey Rings....too many moving parts, I finished shooting my groups with USO off my match gun that day and then when I got home I put my Barrett X-rings on there in their 40 MOA position...more of a solid set-up.***

Thank you sir! It has been along time in the making! Eventually I am going to Cerakote the barreled action OD green and black inside the flutes on the barrel, but I had to shoot it first. :D

awesome! dont see alot of extreme long range cheytac or 50bmg cased stuff much lately. Proboboly due to economy somewhat. Thats my ideal caliber for what im after....therfore im jealous ;)

biggest thing to find for me is data. Accurate data. I hope to hear how well it shoots and what your using. Great rig!

I'd like to hear your results as well:D if I lived close to you you'd be my new best friend:D LOL!!! I have some nice builds too but nothing like what you've got! I tend to stay with the 308win but my bro and I have been wanting to build some 338 Lapua's but with as hard as things are to get as far as powder, brass, bullets I'm gonna stick with what I got for now, but I'm working on a 7mm08 build and I have a question about the McRees stock you have, I'd like to hear what you think of it:D I've been looking at using 1 over a glass stock on this build of minegun)

I will be doing some distance stuff this weekend, I will post up my results. I have found a "decent load" with H-1000 that shoots sub-Minute at 100, looking forward to seeing what it does at distance. (I have heard that grouping at 100 can be hit or miss as the bullet "doesn't go to sleep" until further out) We shall see. It seems to be doing ok at 100 .7" and .75" were my two groups at 100 with the load I will be testing at 1000 this weekend on steel.

I have three McRees and I really like them, I have one on my match gun which is a 6.5 Creedmoor, I have one on my 6.5 SAUM which I use for my Long Range hunting rig, and now this one, they are very adjustable and so far durable, and I like that they don't have a barrel shroud like some of the chassis so you don't have to run such high rings, this one has high rings just because to get cant in the scope that is what I had available. Really nice chassis and Scott McRee is a very good guy to deal with.

Here are a few pics of 100 yard groups. My POI is 20 MOA high at 100, according to my program it should be roughly an 1150 yard zero. That is with Barrett X-rings set to 40 MOA and the 20 MOA Stiller base and the scope at the bottom of its travel. (should give me enough travel to get out to 3000 yards! *theoretically*) Will be banging steel at distance this weekend and post a range report.

Yes, yes it is, why do you ask?

We have been suggesting that a shank diameter of 1.350" is marginal and should be minimum on these .408 based chamberings. Some of us have stepped up to 1.400"-1.450".
Notice I said suggested....we have not invested in instrumentation and gauges required for measuring CUP in the Piezeo or pressure trace based systems as calibration certainly becomes an issue not to mention cost.
So we have erred on the side of safety and stepped up the diameter to at least 1.350". Most actions available are 1.450" - 1.600", so the larger shank is not problematic.
For the guys wanting to build the lighter rifles, an 1.450" dia action and a barrel that has a shank dia of 1.350" and tapers to .900" or so at the muzzle will fit the bill nicely.

Thank you for the info, I do have the 1.6" diameter action, this was the first build that I have done on a caliber of this size and I never even considered that the 1.250" straight tube as being "too light".

By my math I have about a .3125" chamber wall thickness, if I had a 1.350" shank I would have a .3175" I have about 150 rounds through it now, I will make sure I don't try pushing the envelope as far as high pressure loads and on my next tube I will definitely step it up. I am not very pretty, but I don't want to blow my face completely off either! :)
