30-06 150gr ProHunter help

I read the good reviews on the Ruger American til I couldn't stand it any more. Ya, I bought one in '06. My first '06, and I don't know if I have enough meat on my shoulder for it. Light gun and pretty stiff recoil. Not as young and tough(or dumb) as I used to be.
I'm working with H4350 right now seating 150gr pro hunters about .007" off the lands. R&P cases, WLR primers. I have worked up to 61.0 gr so far. Shooting just over 1" @ 100yds. I'm thinking I may have run past the sweet spot, and maybe I ought to go back to around 59gr and work back up more carefully. Shoots good enough for huntin hogs, but I'm sure it will do better,,,if I can. I see where the majority of folks use IMR4350. Will H4350 do just as well ? How much difference is there in a rifle like the ruger? Any thoughts and ideas appreciated. Gary

another option is to very primers and very your seating dept at the level you are at right now. Changing to h4350 might be another way to fine tune your load. I usualy like to start load devopement for a rifle with at least 3 differnt bullets, powders and primers. I might not use all of them if i find a load that im satisfied with and then i might use twice as many variations if im not. One other thing to keep in mind is that you didnt buy a 2ooo dollar target gun there and inch to inch and a half might be all its going to do and to be honest ive had guns that cost twice what that ruger did that didnt do any better then you allready have achieved

I shoot 50.5 varget and a 168 berger or CBT, or a 165 NP or NBT. lapua brass, 210m. in my 30-06s.

lloydsmale, Thanks for the reply. I'm using the H4350 now, and was thinking of trying the IMR4350, but I've got a couple of pounds of H on hand. I'm going to try some CCI large rifle primers,and also some magnum primers. The rifle actually shot some factory stuff slightly under an inch(.974") right out of the box after initial cleaning. So, I'm pretty sure it will do better with the right load.
I had a little trouble getting a good measurement with the stoney point oal gauge. Kept getting different readings. Tried some of the other methods of measuring(rod in the muzzle to the bolt face and then to a bullet in the lands) etc. The measurement I came up with(backed off .007") stuck the bullet in the lands and pulled the bullet when trying to eject it. So I backed of another .010". The ruger chamber is quite a bit shorter than my remington '06.
I have bought 5 or 6 rifles under $500 in the last few years(since savage got everyones attention) and they all shoot under 1", and I'm not a "good shot". I've been amazed at the accuracy of the "cheap" rifles, and wonder why it took so long for the manufacturers to let'em out of the bag. Thanks again for the advice, I'll keep working on it.

Thanks for the info. I use the Sierra 165's in my 308, may try'em in the '06's later. Primarily shootin hogs, so my concern is more about accuracy(need all the help I can get), more than terminal ballistics.
A fellow I know shoots'em with .22LR,,,,successfully!
