I had a friend call me this morning and ask if I was interested in buying his rem.700 ADL chambered in 270, I asked him how much ? He said $250, the rifle has only been shot about maybe 30 times , not sure if he bought 2 or 3 boxes of ammo when he bought the rifle , and has almost a full box left. Needless to say I bought this rifle and now I am trying to decide what build to do next?? I am just not a big fan of the 270 and the one I had is at my gunsmiths now being built as a 280 AI .

Depends on what you want to do with it. Sounds like a good candidate for lots of calibers.

Figure out what you need caliber wise for the future and start there, or start with your desired use. If you want a varminter then you have endless choices with that action, more limited as you go up, but with simply opening the bolt face or swapping bolt bodies you could go up to even a 26 Nosler or as small as the .220 Swift.

You have gone for the new imposter in the .280AI. Now go for the original and best, the 7x64. Everything the .270 should have been....

+1! :) That would be a good and also logical decision, because the 7x64 Brenneke has got significant more power in (European, f.ex. RWS, Brenneke) hard loaded fab - ammo than the 280. So there isn't any big difference to find between 7x64 and 280AI. BTW, the 7x64 is the "mother" of the 280 Rem and you'll get something nice and special not everyone owns in the states. Brass and components are not an obstacle at all, you'll find a bunch of it. Several American producers like Winchester, Federal and Hornady are also producing fab - ammo for the calibre. The 7x64 Brenneke is one of the most popular hunting rounds in whole Europe and that for good reason. Good luck with your choice to be taken! gun)
