+1 Along with Remingtons, Savage is one the best factory actions available. In my opinion, if I couldn't have a Remington it would surely be a Savage. Same here, if you need help just ask, many guys, including myself, will be delighted to help.

You can get an already cut, threaded, contoured, and short chambered barrel from Shillen for your Savage pretty reasonable. Boyds stocks are great in my opinion, and are also affordable. As for a trigger, if you don't like that AccuTrigger, Timney makes some really nice ones that are fully adjustable. I'm not big into muzzle brakes, but I have heard good things about Vais Brakes, which are the only ones my uncle will install on a customer's rifle. Hope this helps!
If you're doing a DIY, there's a few good prefit barrels (Pacnor, McGowen, etc...) out there and Shilen is up there as Jud96 as noted. If you're going to have a smith do it, barrel choices is wide open.
I am a big fan of muzzle brakes with side discharge holes for recoil reduction and muzzle rise but not the radial type (holes all around to kick up debris off the muzzle blast when in prone) but that's just my personal preference. There's lots of choices out there in the market.
On my last project I had a Beenie Cooley muzzle brake by JP Enterprise (JP - Compensators - Bennie Cooley Signature Series) and am really very please with it.

Rifle Basix also makes a Savage trigger that gets a lot of respect.
I have heard that before, but never had any experience with them so just recommended Timney.

I like the Accutrigger, and ordered my barrell from McGowen Outlet.com at
Hunters Run Gun Club, fast frindly service and a prefit barrel with lots of

From my experiences Boyds are great stocks. Their prices sure don't reflect their performance, they sure do shoot nice when bedded right. Can't go wrong at $100 for one.

I'm going to have to go +1 on savage's accutrigger. If set up just right, it has a danm good feel to it. I only wish I could adjust the X-mark pro trigger on my remington 7RUM to feel that good.
The McGowen outlet only has already-built pre-fit barrels. If you want a non-run-of-the-mill barrel, like the 32" straight cylinder pre-fit that I just got recently, you have to go to the main site and order it, with 12-15 weeks (currently) lead time.
