300 WSM reloading info request

Barring that I find a serious reason not to, I plan on buying a light weight rifle in 300 WSM, and was wondering two things.

#1-Are there any problems unique to reloading the 300 WSM I need be made aware of, or as I all my research to date has indicated, the 300 WSM reloads much like any other rifle caliber.

#2-Is there 1 or 2 powders that out shine all the rest for use in the 300 WSM with bullets weighing 180 grains and 165 grains respectively? This rifle will see use out west predominately as a light weight elk rifle, and secondly if I ever get the bug to hunt antelope, WT or Mule deer should the oportunities presents themselves.

Nothing special about reloading for it. Powders that do the best are RL-22 and RL-25.

For the 165 I have had great luck using H414, W760, and H4350. With the 180 grain bullets I have had good results using H4831. I have also heard that R17 gets high velocities in the WSM case. Most accurate load I loaded was W760 and a Swift Scirocco 150 grainer. It consistently was a 1/4 MOA load out of a factory savage 10, and devastated caribou.

Not an issue with reloading per se, but I have heard that some have a hard time getting accuracy with bullets above 200gr. with the wsm.

I was able to attain .6" group with 180 gr. ttsx's with R19. Didn't go farther with that load since I was happy with that from my stock Tikka. But I am not a long range shooter.

My only experience with the 300WSM has been with 165 grain bullets and IMR4350 worked very well with it. I have heard with the heavier bullets that moderately slower powders such as H4831 can be used. The only problem I had loading for the WSM is my Lee Auto-prime had to dremel treat the shell holder opening to accept the large case head which was not much of a problem.

Stock Tikka T3 Lite 300 WSM shooting sub 1/2 MOA out to 400 (haven't shot it farther) with RL19 and 180 gr TSX

I ended up at 66 gr of H4350 shooting a 168 BT.

I have found that with 150-165 grain bullets that powders in the burn rate close to H4350, RL-17, and RL-19 work best. When I move up to 180-190 weight I have had very good results with N165 and IMR-7828.

Here are a couple of targets that were shot with my Winchester Model 70 Coyote. It is a stock gun with a Timny trigger.

First one was shot with 155 Sierra Match bullets, RL-19 powder in Norma cases. It is a five shot group at 100 yards.The second one was shot with 185 Berger Hybrids, and IMR-7828. It is a 3 shot group at 100 yards.

I have seen very little difference. It takes about 1/2 to a grain more h4350 in my loads.

Im going to be breaking in a 16 fcss in 300wsm next week. I have more imr 4350 than h4350 and only 1 pound of rl17. So I'll probably load imr first with both 168 and 185 vlds to start.

Haven't made it past r17 & 208 amax's yet. They've held one third to one half moa in my t3. I didn't chrono it, but it doped out at around 2900 fps.
