Snapped off the trigger on my 700 action - where can I find a replacement?

The action/barrel/trigger assembly fell and hit the floor while it did not have the protection of being in the stock/trigger guard. To make a long story short, it now has a broken off trigger. The trigger piece is made of some kind of cast sh!t - probably not weldable. And all I have been able to find on line so far are entire "aftermarket" replacement trigger assemblies costing $130 to $200. I don't need aftermarket, and I don't need the whole assembly. I just need a replacement for the stock [X mark pro] broken piece. Anybody know where I can find one?

I did take a pic of it, but [call me an idiot if you want] I cant figure out how to attach it to this message. I usually see something to click on for attaching files, but I'm seeing NO such option here.

You can probably by a used one (whole X Mark Pro assembly) for the cost of the part, if you can find a part. A lot of folks replace those triggers with Timneys, Jewels and such so it should be relatively easy to find one cheap. Put a WTB add in the Guns Parts forum.

That's what I was starting to figure, after my online searches were coming up dry on the part. I'm hoping to keep this down to no more than a 10 to 20 dollar mistake (even 20 really ****es me off that I let it happen).

All I can say is beware. As soon as you remove the stock, you set yourself up for this to happen, should the assembly happen to slip or fall. This is because it is the only part that protrudes out of the whole barrel/action/trigger assembly, AND [worst of all] it happens to be made of a VERY BRITTLE pot-metal-like material - different from any other metal on the rifle, as far as I can tell. It almost feels like it was designed this way on purpose, to "get" you, if you aren't ultra-careful.

Here goes another shot at posting the pic of the broken part. It looks like I previously had some scripts blocked, including the 1 that allows you to attach picture files.

This is a great excuse to tell your wife it has to be replaced. I'd swap it to a Timney for under $120 shipped (check ebay) any day compared to the factory trigger. You're going to have to remove yours anyway to replace this part.

Swap it now and you'll be very thankful, even if you consider the stock trigger to be good enough. One day at the range will prove it.

Can you take a better picture with it laying flat, I have a draw of Rem 700 triggers and I'd just send you one if it matches.

You can buy both NEW or PULL Rem 700 triggers complete off of E-Bay. Prices run from $10 to $45 for them.

Within 2 hours of posting the classifieds, 2 "offers" came in at OVER 45, and 1 at 40 a short time later. Yet I saw a few that DIDN'T EVEN SELL at 15 on ebay. That's why I felt like I had been "swooped" upon. But I have since recieved 2 more no-cost offers, in addition to BNG's. It looks like a few decent folks saw what was going on, and stepped up to the plate. It helped greatly to restore my faith that folks are here to actually help each other out, rather than just trying to separate them from their greenbacks. I suppose it's one of those things where ya just hafta take the bad with the good.

In reference to going "aftermarket", many do seem to believe that the stock XMP is inferior. My take on that is that it might very well be true, because I have not been able to adjust it to feel anywhere near as good as the [acutrigger, is it called?] trigger on my 20-year-old savage 110. But at this point in time, I already have too much CC debt racked up (I usually don't run ANY) that needs to get paid off before I have a leg to stand on, in justfying that I "need" to spend even more money right now, on my "toys"!.

I'm going to close out the WTB thread that I posted in the classifieds, as it looks like I have enough responses.

P.S. - Oh, I did forget about 1 other thing! That 2nd pic (a face-pic, after the enlarged trigger pic) in my previous post. It was a pic I took to test out a memory card in the camera (the original broken trigger pic made use of my laptop's built-in webcam). The face-pic got uploaded accidentally, but I said what-the-hell, let's leave it up there, and see if anyone can put the correct name to it.

Update:

There IS now an X-mark pro assembly on it's way to me, with the sender refusing to accept ANY sort of payment for it. Several similar offers have also come in. It MORE than makes up for that "raked over" feeling that I had previously. It proves that there ARE people out there [on this site] who have genuine good intentions, and see the whole picture, rather than only the green portion of it.

Now that it's all water over the bridge as I like to say, I see that no one has yet wagered a guess on who the guy in the pic is. Maybe some hints are in order?


He IS a man of the law, and has another (very high profile, indeed) career as well. He now has aspirations on going to a level that is beyond the law. The location is "in the sand".
