I see folks at range and there rifles recoil straight back perfectly. How the heck they do that ??.

When I shoot I get a few in there but not all the time it recoils straight back. There using same front bag as me..what gives ??

I am assuming you mean off a bench.

More than likely - they are straight back from the rifle more than you are. I've seen guys on the bench leaned so far to one side that it would be impossible to get a rifle to recoil straight back. How much trigger hand pressure or grip can effect it also.

This is just a guess without seeing your form.

Mike & cowboy

Shooting .280AI, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm STW, 7mm-300, 7mm RUM, 300RUM and a fews 338 lapua and one 416 barret. At different times these folks were shooting prone with sand bags and bench rest sitting down with same bags. All were heavy 28 --33 inch barrels. Alot of medalist A5 stocks there, also alots of laminated stocks.

I guess these rifles weighted minimum 14lbs.
But they recoil so perfectly back. I am doing different things and sometimes it works others not so. From what I seen and took home, in prone they were perfectly straight back with stock elbows were folded underneath stock. I tried that and it freaking hurt bad

Get bigngreen to tell you in a way that I can figure it out also.

He shot several shots through my 375 AM and followed the bullet through the scope to the 1K target each shot.

His comment was "She sure breaks good." I'm thinking' what does that mean???

I can spot the hits at all distances and that's "after" she settles back in.

I'm eatin' up barrel life on a couple of rifles trying to figure it out.

They all jump to the left a bit for me. Irks my nerves!

I figured the brake was pushing it. Here's the video.

Sure looks like all problems are driver related.:rolleyes:

It seems like I seen something about this in a rifle fitting article. I could be completely wrong because they stated what caused it and I cannot remember to save my life. But I think it had something to do with posture??? Or maybe shooter-stock fit. Like I said I remember seeing it but don't remember who, what, when, etc.... Its has got me curious though.

I've been trying to figure this out myself. When I shoot off the bench, I get the best results when the sling stud doesn't contact the front rest and I'm not muscling the rifle. Also, the butt of the rifle needs a good non-canted rest like a proper shooting bag. I think Broz's explanation is the best.

I'm still working on finding a comfortable position for shooting prone with the bipod...
