You will get much better performance out of heavier bullets.
The Hornady Interbond 139gr was pretty much my all time favorite for deer and hogs when I was still shooting the 7mm Rem. If I remember right 72.2 grains was where I hit a really good accuracy node.
Start out at about 70gr and work up watching for pressure signs.
If I were shooting the 7mm Mag today, I think I'd start though with the 150gr Swift Sirocco. Excellent hunting bullets with a very high BC. Next on the list would be either Nosler Accubond or jump right into the Nosler Accubond Long Range.

what powder with the 139 rose??
I've used rl22 and i7828 with 150's in the 7rem, retumbo with 171's in the 7rem, and i4064 or rl22 with 140's in the 7rem. Other powders like 4350 and 4831 will work well too.

Sorry, H1000. That's what I moved to from H870 which they no longer make. I was loading for both the STW and Rem and whenever I can I like to stick to one powder That helps avoid oopses.
RL 22 or even 19 would probably work well in it but I never used them.

I would, they get awfully explosive at magnum velocities and have much, much lower bc's. The 150gr Sirocco and 154 gr Interbond's are where I bet you'll see good performance/accuracy and great performance on game. At 300yds plus the Hornady SST is a good choice too but again, at magnum velocities they seem to be pretty explosive at closer ranges. I hate to see a whole I can stick my fist through on the back side of an animal, or worse one limping off to die because a bullet is traveling well beyond it's optimal velocity when it hits and doesn't penetrate.
I would certainly avoid going lighter than the 139/140gr bullets unless the heavier offerings just won't perform in your barrel.
asd- the 120 balitic tips are tougher than the 140 balistic tips . i could not get them to shoot as good as some others. i have killed a bunch of antelope and deer up to 200 pounds with the 120 solid base nosler and 81 grains of h-870, neither of which are made any more. Also, a bunch of elk and deer with the 139 horn and 69.5 grains of h-4831. the 140 berger , 140 accubond and 168 berger are the most accurate in my rifles and are what i currently use with H-1000. The Cdl is a very attractive rifle. enjoy. roninflag

Be careful with the Sirocco's. There is no doubt they are a fabulous bullet, but they are finiky like a Berger. You will need to play with seating depth to get the most out of accuracy. I shot the 150 out of a 7 rem mag and out of a 7 RUM. The bullet performed awesome on game, however it took lots of time tinkering and playing getting them right.
I have found the 154 interbonds accuracy is superb but when you compare it to the knowdown power of the accubond, the accubond will win that match everyday of the week. Consistancy is the key to me, and the accubonds have proven time and time again to expand and take game cleanly and effectively.
