What actiuon is this barrel threaded for?

OK I have a barrel that I bought from a member here that I was told was a Remington 700 barrel. Well I bought a stainless Rem 700 in 300 ultra and was going to have my gunsmith put it on my action and it would not work. It would start threading on then just stop.

It is a 1.055 x 18 TPI and I guess Remington is 16 TPI and it is not inletted on the barrel for the bolt to go in either. The barrel says S&S Precision on it and I can't get a hold of anyone there to inquire about the barrel but their website says they do Remington actions or custom actions. I just want to know what possible actions this will work on and maybe sell it if there is any interest.

Here is a couple of pictures of the barrel next to a Sendero 300 ultra barrel. I bought the Sendero barrel to do the build so there is a good comparison. Thanks for any help in advance.

I'm thinking it was on a custom action or one that someone re-cut the threads from 1" to 1.055
in the action to clean them up. (Some of the Savages have a 1" tenon diameter.

The tenon is standard 1.055 for the Savage/Stevens but they are 20 tpi

All of the 18 tpi action threads that I know of have much smaller tenon diameters (Less than 1")

If you want to use it you can set the tenon back and thread to fit any action you have.

Sorry I could not help more.

Thanks J E Custom. I appreciate it. I thought about having him set it back and thread to a Remington but then I would have a 300 RUM with a 24 inch barrel. At this point I would rather sell it I just need to know what it will fit. Can you set it back far enough to chamber it to a 308?

I don't know of a factory action using that thread, not that I know all of them. It's not for a Stiller or Borden action.

You can't set it back to chamber a 308 unless you cut the entire chamber out.

I have built several 24" barreled 300 RUMs for carry, and to add a muzzle brake. They don't give up much velocity with the 180 class bullets and are very handy to hunt with. for heavy bullets (200
+ grains)a 26" or 28" barrel will make a difference.

The other option is to set the tenon back and chamber for a 300 short mag in a short or long action.

OK thanks. Are you by any chance interested in the barrel? I would make you a screaming deal on it. PM me if you are. Thanks

I maybe wrong, but I think the Stole actions are an 18 thread pitch, and some others as well. (Farley, maybe Neisika Bay, and also maybe the Les Brown)

Re: What action is this barrel threaded for?

Anybody have any ideas on this barrel? Thanks
That barrel is not for any rem 700 that I have ever rebarreled, and a rem 788 has 20-TPI
Stolle - 1"-1/16 x18 tpi with 30 degree cone
Bat -- 1"-1/16 x 18 tpi with 25 degree cone
Stiller --1"-1/16 x 18 tpi with 30 degree cone and some with 14 degree cone
Farley-- 1"-1/16 x 16 tpi with 30 degree cone
Winchester - 1" x16 tpi flat breech
Ruger ---- 1" x 16 tpi flat breech
Nesika-----1"-16 x 18 tpi 30 degree cone
Hall ------- 1" x 16 tpi 25 degree cone
Howa -----1".022 x 1.5 mm- flat breech
Browning A-bolt -- .922 x 20 tpi flat breech
and some have .996 x 32 tpi flat breech
AMT-- 1"-1/16 X 16 TPI with 30 degree cone
Wichita---1"x16 tpi with flat breech
Sherman--1"x14 tpi with double 30/45 degree cone
The threads might be 1.5 mm on the barrel you have ?

The tenon is .700 when measuring just the threaded part. What is a VR? Thanks for the responses guys.

I think it might be for varmint repeater. I have not done a barrel for a Bat VR ,it may have a flat breech. Maybe some one else here has and can let use know if the VR has a flat breech.

The BAT VR does have a flat bolt nose and a flat (no counterbore) breech. If you put a case in the chamber and provide a protrusion measurement I'll double check my records when I'm back in the shop to verify

I measured protrusion like you said and it is right at .130-.131. I hope you got it figured out. I am wanting to sell this barrel so if anyone wants it please feel free to make an offer. Thanks
