what are your thoughts on a factory rifle for elk 600m yard max, normally 450 or less...looking for light weight with adjustable trigger, will put Swarovski z5 with turret on it:

Weatherby Mark 5 lightweight
Browning lightweight
Sako
Remington sendero (depends on weight)
Cooper (depends on weight)

looking for rifle under 8lbs with scope

thinking 300 win mag or 300 wsm

any input?

I will reload

I will probable have a muzzle brake added if needed but hopefully everything else will stay the same, looking for stainless and plastic stocks...I would go custom but I do not shoot that much to make it worth while (at least I do not think I do)...its a dilemma for sure

Sako in 260. Or find a sendero 264 if you can get that lucky. The 260 is easy on recoil and it's a blast to shoot

Winchester model 70. If you can find the Stainless/laminate you can probably pick one up for between 600.00-900.00 NOS or used but in very good condition.

The newer Extreme weather stainless/synthetic is a bit lighter and can be had for around 1000.00.

I have both rifles and after floating/bedding/pillars etc they shoot more than well enough to get to 600yds and beyond and the 300wm of course is more than enough gun for just about anything in N. America at the ranges you specify.

You may want to add the Tikka T3 light or ultra light to your list of possibilities. Real hard to beat for the $$$
