I will be setting up a Savage 111 LRH 338 Lapua in the next couple of weeks. I'am awaiting delivery of the gun & scope which is a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 SFP 30mm Tube with the EBR-1 MOA recticle. I could use some suggestions on rings and ring height that work well with this scope and rifle combination. I will keep the factory base for now. I was looking at the Burris XTR rings but having a hard time finding any posts & info on what people are using, I would like to keep the scope as low as possible with caps installed. I still need to buy Lapua brass and some other reloading supplies to get going - so cost is a factor, Any advice would be appreciated - Thanks!

The answer depends on the base, the barrel contour and how far back the scope will be positioned. On a "0" Warne tactical base, low will work, especially given the 111 barrel contour. With a 20MOA base, it will be close indeed. I use medium rings and have about 1/8" to a varmint contour 26" barrel. I personally hate it when the scope bell is so close to the barrel that the scope covers don't fit.

I ended up mounting the low Vortex Precision rings on the factory base. The 4-16x50 Vortex Viper PST came out perfect with these rings on this gun. The covers fit great with a little to spare. I purchased the low Burris Tactical rings but will use them on another project, I did not try this combo on this gun as originally planned but I'am sure they would of worked out fine.

Deja-vu. I have the exact same rifle, I think you saw it when you were at the house.

For the OP, I have the 6.5x24 Vortex on mine with Warne medium rings and my scope covers fit just fine.

The stock EGW rail may or may not be any good. Mine is just fine, but check all the screws and locktite prior to mounting your rings and of course line-align the rings and lap them.

Check your action screws for prevailing torque and threadlocker them as well.

Pinch your wallet and get Lapua brand brass. Nosler-Norma is a good second choice, Everything else is junk.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't use Burris rings for a supposotory, let alone mounting a scope on a heavy recoiling rifle. I realize it has a brake but it still kicks very sharply.

If you really want an experience, remove the brake and ignite ONE, It will only take one.

I believe the Vortex Precision rings are also made by Seekings. I also picked up New Lapua Brass 150ea (Ouch!). I'am going to load up some 300gr HPBT Lapua Scenar and Some 250gr Sierra Match Kings and see what I can come up with for some loads. Also a note to SidecarFlip, I think you have me mixed up with someone else, Unless you live in Montana now I don't think we have met. Thanks for the Reply's!
