Was able to try out the .338 Edge in large corn field today. Made a 670 yard shot.... hit her a little far back and she ran maybe 200 yards into the woods. I drug her down further onto a 4 wheeler path for the recovery and pics.

Cool. Looks like your hunting pard was worn out :)

ooops I see now he was reading, thought he was napping on ya

Hey at least he was out there with you. I am 45 and have been known to play video games on a stand :)

thank you for sharing the story with us.

im sorry for turning this into a teaching moment at your expense but it is with good intentions. your honesty is admirable and will possible allow others some pause for thought which may result in more ethical shots. you conceded that the shot was a little far back, i imagine the wind was the larger variable responsible. i ask all to consider, what could have happened if the bullet weighed less and/or had a less desirable bc? one needs to be honest with their understanding of the variables present and be prepared in the face of pressure to rise above the influence and do whats logical. i do not mean to imply you whimsically touched your shot off and i do understand most would consider the hunt a success. but to be a several inches off with bullet that bucks the wind better than most should leave one asking questions.

i am a man whos life is filled with regret. i first read this thread about 10 hours ago and after failing to fall asleep turned on the netbook to share my thoughts on the topic. i will thank you again for allowing me to have this moment. have a great day and please, no hard feelings.

I appreciate your concern, but I do practice hunter ethics and teach this to my son's and our 4-H/YHEC group. We teach to hold the game we hunt in the highest respect. That's why I've spent thousands of dollars and many hours working out the drops for my rifle. With that said it was my first long range deer or deer past 300 yards that I've taken. So I'm still a novice but I killed the doe and she expired within minutes of the shot. I wouldn't hesitate to take the shot again, and use what I've learned from this fist time to make it better.

Great shot and congrats. Just my two cents, there are just as many people make bad shots at a few hundred yards than those at longer ranges. As long as you practice and know your weapon of choice, and are able to calculate all the variable in which he did. Then that is why he was able to make the shot. Again nice shot and thanks for sharing.
