Considering the 6,5 x 65 RWS you don't need more than 25,5'/26' barrel length to get 3200fps velocity.
That's bbl under measuring velocity for RWS' data tables.If a case's capacity and shape are similar, you will end up with similar results.
Judging from Ken Howell's drawings and data in "Designing and Forming Custom Cartridges..." 6.5x65 and 6.5-06 AI are pretty similar.

+! Absolutely right. You'll exceed both barrel life and facilitate reloading while using original RWS - brass (one of the best!). Further on you're going to have much more fun with the 6,5x65, because you also will own something unique in comparison to the "boring" 6,5 - 06 (AI).
If you want a special cartridge no one else has, then build a 6.5x65, it seems you are in love already. But pls stop kidding yourself. There is nothing magic about the German 6.5-03 and that's what the rws is. If you put the same amount of powder into two cavities of nearly identical shape and volume, assuming the rest of the barrel is identical, you won't have results differing by 100%!

Hi Big Muley! I'd like to recommend you an article by Chuck Hawks about the great round 6,5x65 RWS. He loaded it with a 127 gr Spitzer bullet and came to fabulous 3460fps. That's about the same you can get from a 6,5x68S or 264 Mag. gun)

Don't mean to dig up an old thread, but I can;t figure out how to start a new one!
I am building a 6.5x65rws on an old Goldenstate arms 30-06 K98 Mauser action rifle.
I got a good deal on a LW barrel and plan to mount it in an archangel stock. I purchased a box of brass from Huntingtons( still can' sit down ) but my smith says he can headspace it with the case, so I saved the $20 from the go/no go gauges.
Currently max cartridge length is 3.27 in my magazine, which is longer than the 3.22 rws load of a 127gr bullet. Plan is to load it with 140gr SST's and Reloader 26. I know I will have to be seating deeper in the case to use these. Case capacity is 69gr H2O( 63 usable with a 140gr seated to max length
Question is since there is not much load data out there for this combo can, I use 6.5PRC data as a starting load? I believe it holds 68gr H2O but Hornady is seating the bullets out farther. Hornady data lists 140's and R26 for that round.

I would not be afraid of using prc data if you start low. Ive used that brass to form my 6.5 Sherman and its very tough.

I have a 6.5x65 RWS. Great Cartidge. Easily bests the .270. The case is best thought of as an improved 6.5-.280 Rem. It is true that Factory loads are much more limited than say a 6.5x55 or 6.5x57. I know, I own them all. But, RWS makes its wonderful brass for the 6.5x65 and 100 cases will last a LONG time. It will easily better the 6.5-06 at lower pressures.

308SB What loads/ bullets are you running in your 6.5x65? I am looking for elk rounds both long and short range. Thinking 140 gr gold dots for out to 300yd and 140/147 gr eldm for long range.
