Why savage chose such a slow twist for this caliber,i don't know. But i would like to load 150gr bullets for this rifle, specifically noslers new LR bullet. Will a 1-11 24" barrel stabilize these bullets?

Yea 140gr would be optimal, but i really wanted to try the new noslers and they only make a 150gr in the LR bullet. I could buy a box and try, but that's wasted money if they don't shoot

I'm not up to date on nosler? you have a link to these new bullets?

Emmagator, with the short bearing surface for weight of these bullets and the muzzle velocity of the 270WSM I really don't think you will have any problem at all shooting those 150AB bullets, if you can find a good load.

Rate of twist isn't the only factor in stabilizing projectiles, a bullet pushed through with higher velocity creates a faster spin, and the higher RPM is what stabilizes the flight of the bullet.

So if i understand correctly, a higher fps load could stabilize equal to or better with a 1-11, compared to a slower fps load coming out of a 1-10 or 1-9 barrel?

So i just need to work up a hot load?

Velocity has very little effect on stabilization. Twist rate is by far the biggest factor.

Play with this twist calculator and you will get a good idea of the different factors affecting stabilization.

I would not mess with any of the 270 ABLR's based on the thread that Lefty posted.

Savage changed to a 1-10 twist in the 270 WSM but there were some years that they used a 1-11 twist, you have to verify the twist rates with a rod. I had no issues with stabilizing 150's in my 1-11 twist but I'm at 6000+ elevation, the ALR is an aggressive design so it may not do well in the 1-11.

Went down this road with some 150's in the same barrel. Never did get anything that would hold a good group. I believe we ended up with some 140's that worked out. Been so long I can't even remember all the details. Just 150's bad...lol
