So, my brother came down from Alaska to mule deer hunt with me and we went out yesterday. I figured I wouldn't take my long range rig due to my priority was getting him a buck, which we did. Nice 4 x 4.
Anyhoo, we were sitting on a ridge glassing and wouldn't you know it. ****, ****, ****. Here comes a lone wolf over the top, never knew we were there and I just shook my head. Go figure. It would have been a long shot (800 ish) but there was no wind, level incline and had plenty of time to set up. I will NEVER do that again.

Woops, I misread the op. "Wouldn't" bring long range rig. The extra weight wouldn't have so bad after all.

Oh Bummer!! I bet that 300 win will get to go along next time.

Better luck next time.

Yeah, well the season ain't over yet. :)
Last year at this same location, I saw 9 wolves so I think there is a den somewhere near here. Might have to build me a perch and let those 215's fly..............

Randy,

That's my story from last year's archery season. Son in lay carried the bow and genius me opted to leave the 14# rig does @ 6000'. We were @ +9000'.

As w/you, will NEVER repeat that folly.

If u need a spotter, lemme know.
