what would you guys pick out for a long range scope with 1k budget? this will be on a 338 lapua so it needs to hold up to the recoil and have a good amount of travel.

Thanks matt allen

I picked up a used SWFA 5-20x50 on samplelist.com for about that a year ago. it spent the winter on my 338LM, then moved to a 10/22, and now rides my 7 Shamwow.

it's by far my favorite scope.

with a 20 moa rail, it dials to a mile, and has been trouble free & crisp in all conditions from -15 & snow/ice to 105 degrees & dusty. i could go on, but someone would (accurately) call me a supporter....

Save a few hundred more and buy a used Nightforce. There have been 2-3 in the 1250-1400 range lately (5.5x22's) and 3.5x15's are even cheaper. Otherwise I'd choose a Leupold VX3 LR 6.5x20 or 4.5x14. Zeiss has better optics but they haven't proven the repeatability of the other two IMO.

The zeiss scopes I have used have been very repeatable and perfect tracking. For that price a Zeiss HD 5 5-25x50 would be very tough to beat. with a 20 moa base I can reach 1800 yards with a 338-378

Leupold's are at least 20% over priced in my opinion. for $1000 you might check out the Zeiss 5-20x50 with turrets. for your money, Zeiss and Burris are the best options. if you can reach up to the Nightforce, you will never be disappointed. Good luck.

I have 338 Nm one with Super sniper and one mark 4 both 5-20 and mil, bought the leupold to help save weight 20 0z. scope
