So first please bear with me, I have seen dozens of "270 for elk threads", but none about the new .277" Accubond LR 150gr.. I know the bullet was just released but what are your thoughts on it.

I am using IMR 7828 with the accubond lr 150gr and get aroud 2800fps. I have used the accubond before in 140 and its great but I want to use the 150 for my cow elk hunt this year. What should I limit my range to and do you think It would penetrate the shoulder at say 400yds? Or should I try a different bullet oe try to get 2900 fps? Should I limit the shots to less than 400yds? Btw the Accubond 150 gr LR has a BC of .625.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice.

My experience with "All" Accubonds has been great. They Have performed well in 6.8 spc,7/08.7 WSM, 300 RUM, 338 RCM, 338 RUMs, and from 110 to 250 grain bullet weights.

The 150 .277 should be a winner on elk in my opinion if you stay under 400 yards to keep the
energy at or above 1500 ft/lbs.

If you are setting your max distance to 400 yards with the 270 and AccuBond, LR or current, you should have sufficient energy and penetration on an elk.

The LR AccuBond will favor wind drift compared to the older version. You will retain more energy due to the higer BC maintaining velocity but not a significant change between the two bullets at 400 yards and under.

The advantage of the LR AccuBond will become more apparant beyond 400 yards however it is wise to keep shots within limits.
