I have read a lot on here about how a break works, but I am wondering if it would be effective on my 7RM Sendero? I don't know if there is enough pressure there for it to benefit or not. The recoil isn't bad but I am just entertaining some things that may benefit. Thanks for all the help.

First time I experienced a brake was one I had put on a 7 RM for one of the ex's ( I have a small collection... different story).

I have put several on 7mm Sendero's If you plan to shoot long and will be shooting prone I would only opt for a side discharge brake. The radial brakes with holes on the bottom stir up one heck of a dust storm. There are many side discharge brakes to choose from that work well, but for your rifle this is what I would install.

Thanks for the suggestion Broz. U answered my next question as to what kind someone would recommend. I am seriously considering having my gun reamed for a 7mm-300mag which you know a thing or two about so I value your opinion. I need to check with a smith to see if it is possible to do it without rebarreling though first
I had a MAXI Brake from Accuracy Systems Inc. put on my 7RM. I was like you, the recoil wasn't too bad, but I was having trouble spotting my shots. It was totally worth it. Recoil is about like my 243 Win now, and I can easily spot my own shots. It was one of the best things that I have ever added to a gun. The only thing about it is that it is very, very loud now. I was out shooting the other day, got the scope set, and forgot to put my hearing protection on. BAD IDEA! It literally hurt my ears when it went off. I remembered for the second shot

It should be a very easy process and a nice little boost for you 7 Rem, without going over bore too far. The 7-300 win's have been serving many shooters well. Your barrel should be a 1 in 9.25 twist if I am not mistaken and would handle a 180 just fine I bet. If not it would do very well with 168's and at a very nice velocity.

Yeah it is a 9.25 I believe. I know a lot of guys are shooting the 180's without much trouble out of the rem mags so the added velocity from the 7/300 would probably help it along a little. Thanks again guys

It is probably best for your ears to wear hearing protection all the time with or with out a brake. But to answer your question it depends on the surroundings for me. In wide open spaces not all the time. In timber or next to any object like a truck or rocks, yes.

After my little experience I will be carrying some earplugs in my pack from now on at a minimum. If I forget them or lose them, well, I'm not going to pass a good shot

What diameter Vais did you end up getting? The .875 is too big, and the .812" is too small for a standard Sendero barrel... Or did you cut yours back till it was .875"?
To add another twist to the question, what about using one of these mercury recoil reducers in conjunction with the brake? I don't see a lot of people talk about them on here but I have read some things about the elsewhere. Is it's benefit kind of mitigated after you put a brake on? Otherwise, for the few bucks and what appears to be pretty simple installation, seems like it would just be one more little add on that would maybe make a little difference?????
