I've been really looking for a new gun to do some midweight hunting and found myself thining about upgrading my bow instead.. anyone else ever do an about face or get that wild hair? Dang you Elite Archery!!

Two different disciplines, really. I can tell you its a helluva lot cheaper to own and shoot a bow!
I'm just know getting into big game hunting. Here in az you have to put in to a lottery system to get drawn for any big game to be taken by rifle. I guess the fact that I had no bonus points, being new, meant I didn't get drawn for $#!t this year. Fortunately, archery tags can be purchased OTC. I had a decent bow that probably would have gotten the job done but ended up investing in a Mathews heli-m for my first hunt.
If you haven't tried archery or taken it seriously I highly recommend it. Its a great discipline.

Been seriously thinking about it... I've got nothing but rifles; no handguns, shotguns, or bows. Been thinking about getting a bow so I can shoot in the backyard, and been thinking about getting a shotgun for bird season. Also been thinking about a new scope or two...

I've been shooting bow since I was a kid but never hunted with it. Upgraded from my 1980s Indian bow to a nice used Elite Z28 a few years ago when I did a hunt with a few buddies, but never got an opportunity to take anything with it. My word how the technology advanced. Been thinking of going out and giving it a try again this year as my buddy has some property and not a far drive. So I've been practicing again and shooting a few buddies new 2013 bows.. and again I'm surprised how in just 5 years how much smoother, faster, lighter and quiter they are now. Giving reason for maybe getting something new since I have several hunting rifles already.

More than once,if you want to challenge yourself pick up a bow and crawl withing 40 yards of something, you might find the rush of the stalk alone can be more way more exciting than squeezing off a round at any long range.I hunt hard during archery season (odds of filling my tags with a bow arnt great but its my favorite season)and fill any left over tags later with the rifle,if I had my way id make it one one looonnngg bow season.I LOVE to shoot but Id rather stick an arrow in a less impressive trophy than kill a better one with a rifle, thats just me.At some point the hunt becomes more fun than the kill and archery hunting opens up a whole new season and many new hunting opportunity's! gun)

No, but I decided to purchase a new bow a few years back and instead ended up with a safe full of rifles over those years....long range rifles. Never did end up with a new bow back then.

Hmmmmm... I'd say flowers are for Hippies, bows are for hunters, and rifles are for shooters. I'd say I'm a shooter right now, but I'd like to be a hunter :) the longest shot I've ever made with my rifle is 142yds. With my rifle and me shooting, there is close to a 100% chance that pig will drop dead in about 2yds. In the conditions I hunt in I think I actually want it to be a LITTLE more challenging then that.

Although, my 100% DRT percentage is pretty nice...

Ya know, I started bow hunting with a fiberglass semi recurve Bear bow about 40 years ago. Maybe you were born then? When I was a 10 year old kid I was making my own bows and arrows out of ash and maple saplings. I know all about challenges. I have stalked within spitting distance of mule deer. Been in the middle of a herd of antelope with the shadow of the herd buck on my body, bow in hand. I doubt you or many other peolple will ever be able to say that. I can also guarantee you, that in some country and circumstances, you will never get within a half mile of a buck antelope that knows it's being hunted.

So please don't give us the shooter/hunter crap  Many of us in this Long Range Hunting forum are avid skilled bow hunters. That said, this particular sub forum is for long range hunting... not bow hunting. There is a sub forum for bow hunting so I would suggest that you should talk bow hunting there and decline from making disparaging remarks about the skill set and challenges it requires to make cold bore shots in various environmental at extreme distances.

"I usta could" sounds like someone wants to play moderator.I dont care what you use killing something with a bow is always more challenging than a LR rifle kill. Most switch to LR because they dont want to stalk, they want to sit and shoot.I do both and there is no comparison, the difficulty level is there for each but not comparable IMO.I have stalked within 50 yards of a lope that "knew he was being hunted",use the terrain and the wind,if they are in a spot that wont allow it WAIT,you dont have to sit on a ridge 1000 yards away to kill a spooked buck. There is a difference between shooters and hunters,if you dont want to admit it theres probably a reason why.

No, not a moderator, just a member who likes to talk about long range hunting and shooting in the long range hunting and shooting forum. Is that really hard to understand? if you want to talk about bows, go to the bow forum. I like bow hunting and the reason I also like long range hunting is because of the challange of it plus I think making long shots is pretty cool. I have several friends who like both long range hunting and bow hunting... so to make the general statement, "Most switch to LR because they dont want to stalk, they want to sit and shoot" is just plain BS. Most guys I know didn't switch, they do both.

I don't care what you use either if you go back and read me my posts. Just talk about it in the appropriate forums. Ya get it?
