Wondering how much of a benefit to bedding a rifle only been shooting longer ranges for a year now. So looking for examples before and after bedding accuracy. And also wondering what kind of cost a guy can expect for a bedding job. Would appreciate any info. Thanks

Bedding is only one part of the accuracy equation. If the cartrige is of a accuracy design with a accurate action then bedding correctly will HELP eliminate stringing and grouping issues. Bedding will not help the trigger, ammo, bad stock etc. I normally preach to my customers the 6 b's. accuracy can be narrowed down to these most important factors.
1. Barrel
2. Bullet
3. Brass
4. Bedding
5. Bolt
6. Bastard or Bitch behind the bolt!
Get these right and you should be shooting.. Good luck!gun)

Years ago I had a factory Rem700 SPS varmint in 308. It shot about 1moa out of the box. After a while I lifted the barreled action out of the factory plastic stock and put it in a laminated stock that was both pillar and skim-coat bedded. The rifle immediately became a .6moa gun. This is of course just one anecdote. I'm sure there are plenty of others where a rifle was bedded to virtually no change or even a negative change (although can't say I've heard many of those).
One of the other things to consider before bedding is the stock. You don't want to bed a junk stock (like a factory 'plastic' stock). Bed a stock that's worth the investment.
As for cost, the last time I looked into it, a gunsmith would charge $100 to skim-coat bed a rifle and another $50 to add pillars to the job. Personally, I pillar bed all my stocks that do not have an aluminum bedding block.

Bedding is critical no matter how you look at it. In some receiver designs and stock designs more then others but all critical for long term consistant performance.
Stock design will determine which type of bedding is correct, skim, pillar or block bedding, As such, cost will be dependant on the type of bedding you need.
That said, if you have a factory rifle that is shooting poorly, do not expect that simply bedding the rifle will turn it into a 1/2 moa rifle. As mentioned much more to it then just the bedding but bedding is a critical aspect of a quality, stable, stress free rifle system.
