Having a 280 AI built by score high. Blueprinted 700, Bartlein 26" M24 5r 1:9, Manner MCS T4A. Berger doesn't have 280 AI data yet and I was hoping I could get some people's favorite loads. I plan on using: CCI #200 primers, H4831SC, and 168gr Berger VLD's, so if you have a favorite 280 AI load or have some recommendations to make, please share!

Those gun specs will be pretty close to mine, when it's all said & done.

I have been researching Bartlein barrels, and Brux, and about the only blanks I can find are Douglas Air-Gauged #7 contour, and a Bartlein M24 5R blank.

Since the Bartlein is a 5R rifling and a 1:9, I will most likely go with that blank.

I am interested to see the load data as well.

Except for mine I will be using IMR 7828 SSC, and Fed 210 primers, behind the Berger 168 VLDs.

I am running 57.0 grains of H4831SC behind Berger 168's. This is a near-max load from data I have seen, so work up with care. I have no pressure signs and could likely go higher but accuracy is great so I'm not messing with it.

I could never get the speed I wanted with the accuracty with H4831sc. I ended up getting a good load with H 1000. I shoot the 162 A-max with 63.5 of H 1000 in my 280 ACK..I have Douglas barrel with 1-9 twist. Remember start low and work up.

Here are some groups with 160 NABs. The Bergers shoot just as good...

I ha e been using 59 g h1000 with a 210m primer.. no pressure signs at all and I am getting .3 at 200 yards.. .10-.20 off the lands with 168g bergers!!

kasey

That's good that H1000 seems to be working pretty well, I have a good bit of it sitting around for my magnums...

But still, I would love to find a load for IMR 7828 SSC, if anyone has a good one for the 160 NAB's and 168 Berger VLD's.

Yes it's nice there seems to be a couple viable powders. Looks like I'm gonna have to pick up some H1000, unfortunately this just complicated the load tuning process.

7828 would be a good one as well its rite between 4831 and h1000 on the burn chart.. should get very good results with that...

Nosler has start load of 57.5gr/IMR-7828 @ 2856fps max of 61.5gr/IMR-7828 @ 3043fps with 160gr AB for the 280AI. I started 56.5gr/IMR-7828ssc @ 2828fps and worked up to 58.5gr/IMR-7828ssc @ 3038fps using Fed 210M primers and was good accurate load in my 280AI. I've got some Berger 168gr VLD but just haven't had time to work any loads up.

IMR-7828ssc is my back up load using R-17.

Well good luck

I am working up a load for my .280 A.I. using IMR 4831 and CCI BR-2. Will let you know how this turns out. I do not have a chronograph but I will show my results with load data.

I have tried Retumbo, H1000, IMR4350, H4831SC and IMR7828SSC. It looks like I am going to stay with H4831SC with 160gr accubonds.
