140 gr 6.5mm Hybrid for hunting?

I shot 2 does with them one shot each, found one pencil hole thru lungs never found the other.

3 rd doe I shot 4 times before she dies, only one bullet expanded after hitting heavy bone. All were shot between 380-440 yards. I would advise against using them, stick with the hunting vld.

Not good news!!! My 260 loves the hybrids. What about the 142SMK'S? Any feed back on those?

Aaarrrhhh!!! I just set my new personal best with the 6.5x47 and 140 Hybrids; 1482 yds. Three hits in a row on a dinner plate sized rock. In addition, I was hitting at 1089 and 1341 this am too. Most were 1st round hits.

My set up.

yah, I was on the hook when they shot so good in my 260AI rifle, but it just didn't work well, I used to use the 140 a-max in the same cartridge different rifle and in 3 years killed 13 deer/antelope from 100-609 yards from 2004-06. all one shot kills and easy blood trails.

Bullet placement. Hit & run = nothing vital struck. I have had 1 doe go at least 200 yards after being double lunged with a 50 cal muzzle loader, she just didn't know she was dead. But I can usually find game within 200 yards. For that reason, I try to avoid lung shots, even though it is a pretty sure way to avoid a bunch of damage to useable meat. A head shot, or neck shot or just behind the shoulder, or just in front of the shoulder if quartering toward the shooter will put the game down.

so if we are archers we could use field points as long as we hit something vital??

I don't know about the 140 Hybrid for hunting because my Savage LRP .260 hates them for some reason or another but it does shoot the 140 Amax's very well. We are currently in the middle of a depredation permit for deer/crop damage and I have shot does from 250 yards to 500 yards. If I shoot them behind the shoulder, they are running anywhere from 20-75 yards. Shoulder shots have all been bang/flop. I hunt with a 300 RUM but would not hesitate in the least little bit to shoot a deer to 500 yards with the .260 and Amax's. Haven't shot one farther than 500 yards yet, so that may be pushing it, I don't know. But if the 6.5 Bergers perform like the .30 caliber Hybrids, then they would be tough to beat in my opinion.

I think the wound cavity from a 140 VLD going at 2200fps is a little different to a fieldpoint. A broadhead is going to create a bigger wound cavity also, but there are plenty of hits that can be made with a broadhead which will also not result in a recoverable animal.
