In my attempt at researching criteria for my next precision rifle, I first came across the 7mm practical, I was then introduced to the 7mm rogue ( awesome name BTW), and then I was told about the 7-300wm. I've been searching for info on them and what I really would like to know is, what is the major differences in them? I understand that the Rogue has a longer neck, so I guess I mainly am asking the difference between the Practical and the 7-300. I am the epitome of a novice reloader, and when trying to learn about the sizing and other attributes of the cartridges, I get confused. Someone please help.

Hey, I have a 7mm-300 wm. one distinct difference is the shoulder angle.
The 7-300wm sticks with the original 25 degree shoulder of the 300wm
The 7mm practicle pushes the shoulder in to 30 degrees like the WSM and Ultra Mags which should increase case pressure.
But some smiths have disputed that thought..
Mine shoots exceptional with the Berger 168 HVLD'S at 3140 fps using 71g. Of IMR4831 and Fed.215Primers

7mm-300 WM is a cool caliber. I have been reading about them for a while. Not sure if I'll ever build one, since I already have a hotrod 7mm (STW), but a cool caliber none-the-less.

I've read to load for the 7-300, use 2 redding type s dies. With 300wm brass, First .322 then .312, seat it with a 7 REM mag seater. Is that accurate? I still haven't found info on max case length. Would I just trim it to 300wm length? My goal is to push berger 180's to 3000fps +. Is this possible with the 7-300?

I have set up three 7-300 win mags with the standard win shoulder. I use a set of Redding competition 300 win mag dies to load and size. These are 3 die sets that have a body die, micro bushing neck die and micro seater. I use 3 bushings to step the neck down about .-010" at a time the first time. Less steps will work too but can induce more runout. After than one titanium nitride bushing for neck sizing is all that is needed to size necks with no lube.

I started out by just backing out a standard 7mm die and lubeing the neck. It worked pretty good. But after a few shots and not resizing all the way down the brass the case seperated. So I called RCBS and ordered a 2 peice die set for a 7mm300 win mag. It works smooth the first time and havn't had any problems.
