I need help. Question on Scope rings.

This is probably a dumb question but here goes.. .

I have been working on a gun build for the last 4 or so months. I am ready to purchase scope rings and am sold on the Talley Lightweight One Piece Alloy rings.

What I don't understand is why some of the rings have different heights even though they are the same size. Look at the data I pulled below off of the Talley Scope rings website. The fronts are all the same but the rears change.

Are they adding MOA like a picatinny rail? If so where do I find the data?
Am I missing something?

If it helps I am planning on putting a set of rings on a Remington 700 sendero 7mm. The scope I have chosen has a diameter of 30mm. And I am not looking at adding any MOA to the rings or using a picatinny rail.

Can anyone help me?

Its not hard to decipher... They GO ON DIFFERENT RIFLES is why. If all rifles had identical dimensions...they would have 1 set of rings..period

Thank you. It looks like the difference between the front and back ring for me is 0.10 regardless of whether it is low medium or high.

Ive dealt with Talley before....just call them on the phone...tell them what you have...and they can tell you or order direct for you the ones you need.

For your rifle I would not recommend Tally rings. NOTHING wrong with Tally rings or the quality but they are suited more tword the lightweight crowd,I.E. Ultra light arms, Rem model 7 etc. I have never seen a Rolls Royce Win at the Daytona 500. Its a little mismatch. I would recommend you check out the Burris Z rings. They are about the best clamping power and the best rings for long range. Once set up right they can even add 20moa to the setup. Let me know what you think once you check them out..

Here's a good one - how about... Burris bases!

My Sendero in 7mm Rem wears Burris bases (turn in front, windage screw rear) and Burris Signature rings, medium height with a 44mm objective. I swapped the front set of inserts to give me a -20 in front and more adjustability at longer ranges. It works great. The 30mm rings only come with the 10 size inserts but those will work just fine.

Funny you should ask...

I'm moving all my rifles that absolutely must stay zeroed over the Nightforce one piece steel Picatinny bases, especially the heavy kickers, since I had some other bases come loose in the Kalahari last month.

Cost me a warthog, but at least it was "only" a warthog. Darn thing was "drifting" shots on other critters further and further to left the day before, PH chalked it off to wind but I should have known better. Verified the issue on a paper plate stuck to a fence post after the miss, tightened them back up in the field of course and it turns out less than a half-turn loose moved the zero six inches, say nothing of the groups!

So started looking more closely at bases when I got home and had some NF's lurking in the parts box.

The NF versions have a small recoil lug that engages the front of the ejection port machined into the bottoms ... a small, but (it turns out) important little feature some others are lacking. I'd personally prefer it didn't have the 20 MOA taper, but once I got the scope remounted the laser showed it to be dead-on, but have not yet verified that with live rounds. Could also see cutting off the section forward of the recoil lug as nothing I'll mount will need it.

Then the other day I see a photo of my late (uggh!) friend Chris Kyle, posing with what I presume was one of his his favorite sniper rifles, and guess what's holding the scope on?

Incidentally, I've never had bases come loose like this before so I never paid a whole lot of attention to bases before. It always struck me as a minor miracle those little #6 screws would hold a big scope on a .300 or .375 for long without some help. I may even tap them out to 8's.

Figures it'd happen 8000 miles from home.
