Just picked up my 6.5 today.

This is a compliment to my LMT in 5.56

Boy, there is no comparison to my DPMS (not saying they are bad as I own 2) as the LMT is far better in final workmanship, smoothness, etc.

Now I cant wait to get it cleaned up and out to the range for break-in.

Pretty hefty price to pay, but I think it is well worth it.

What are you all shooting on this platform?

120's, 140's, etc.

What powders work the best?

It has the SS 1/9 twist barrel so am wondering if 140gr bullets will shoot well

Looking at using for hunting (limited as I have bolt guns for this) but mostly to reach out and tag steel at longer ranges.

Thanks for any input you can give me.

Thanks

To my knowledge your the first one to have on on here. There are a lot of guys on M4carbine that are running them, most in 308 Winchester. I would suggest the 123g AMAX or the TTSX. The issue you are going to have is mag length and most of not all the 140g pills are just to long. I believe the 123g AMAX is one of the best options for you in this platform on thin skinned game. The lighter bullet weight will increase you case capacity allowing you to get the most out of the round in the MWS platform.

Also It just came to mind that my friend Alex did some testing with his MWS or his MRP with barrel nut torque and its effect on group size with factor ammo. The results are quite shocking, I will try and link you, but to sum it up the factory inch pound setting grouped the best setting is the best.

So here is a link not the thread I wanted but Alex is very passionate about this system and he has learned a lot and come a long way on his own dime and shared all his finding with us. His screen name there is "trident82" you can search all his threads and his youtube channel.

Hey Theo, you are not the only guy running a large frame AR in 6.5 Creedmoor. Here is a pic of my Mega Arms monolithic in 6.5 CM.....

I haven't shot it a ton yet but I know that all of the ammo I have tried so far fits inside the Pmags I have and I've tried factory 120 gr Amax, 140 gr Amax, 130 gr Berger hybrids, and even the 142 SMK. I will try to get a max COAL that will fit but I do know that all of the ammo I have for my bolt gun 6.5 CM will work.

My barrel is a 24" 1-8 twist SS Brux.....but I'm sure that your 1-9 twist will stabilize factory Hornady 140 gr Amax's.

Post some pics of your LMT when you get a chance, I'd like to see it.

Have fun!

John

Thanks John, not sure if it is my machine or not, but your pic did not come through.

I have not bought glass for my CM yet, still trying to decide, and get the funds put together, but when I do I plan on putting some pics up here. I want to show the 5.56 and the 6.5 CM together in some pics.

I have only put 20 rounds through it so far with taking time to break in correctly. These were the 140 Amax's. just shooting with iron sights.

Found some hornady brass and plan on loading some 120's and 123's when I get a chance and have a scope.

Thinking about a Vortex scope on this one, not sure power yet, any suggestions out there?

thanks again

Theo

A vortex sounds like a great idea. I don't own one yet but I'm sure i'll be adding one to my arsenal eventually, from what I've read they have a great product in their price point, great reticles, great customer service, and outstanding glass.

Let me know what you decide on. I've broke the bank with gun purchases this year and I'll just have to take a scope off another rifle I don't shoot that much to put on my 6.5 CM.
