Any suggestions for new glass on my STW? I put a Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 on my .270 WSM last year and quite like it, it has the ballistic turret which suits my needs for hunting. I have heard mixed reviews on the Huskemaw scopes so not sold on them. Any input from the Hood would be appreciated!!

I would highly recommend what I have on my twin Remington 700 Sendero SF 7mm STWs.
Put a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP EBR-1 MOA Reticle Scope on it. I absolutely love mine!

Sightron S-III 8-32x56 with the LRMOA reticle. Best bang for your buck out there IMHO. Do some digging and check them out...Good Luckgun)

Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 MOAR reticle is my dream scope for my 7STW.
Unless you need the up close magnification, in which case the NF NXS 5.5-22x56 MOAR.

I have a Weaver Super Slam 3.5x15x43 with the ebx reticle on my smokeless ml. Its built like a tank, glass is excellent, also tracks well. Then there is Zeiss which is a step above.

I am currently putting on a Vortex Viper LR 4x16x44 with BDC. Will see how it works out.
A great number of experienced long range hunters seem to favor the Nightforce 5.5X22 in either 50mm or 56mm. I prefer the 56mm and don't seem to notice the extra few ounces of weight. NP-R1 or MOAR.
Time and time again the recurring trend is save up and buy the Nightforce and be happy and done with it. I'm one of those preaching the trend, not because I'm only a NF owner, but rather the other scopes I own (Leupold and Vortex) just don't compare.

I'll throw my hat in the ring, but I may get a few giggles or two. For the better part of my life, I have spelled scope, L E U P O L D. Long story short, as of recent, I have added a few Nikon Monarchs to my collection of glass and iron. My Sharpshooter, wears a 6.5-20 UCC Monarch. It is crystal clear, even at high power, tracking is excellent, and if you could shoot as long as you can see through this scope, you would be WAY past LEGAL shooting time.
My Custom STW, wears a VARI X II, 6-18, target model. It worked wonderfully this past fall. I just added a 5-20 Nikon Monarch to my 308 VSSF last week, and I am very impressed with it as well. I personally have faith in two above scopes, and must admit that li have a soft spot for a Vortex Viper, like my Bro' Gamehawker uses.
The Nightforce scopes are probably the best scope ,except US optics, but both of them are a little out of my reach.

If you are truly going long range and dialing up for adjustment Nightforce is unmatched in repeatability. Those scopes will put up with a lot of abuse and keep on ticking. Like anything of that quality, its not cheap.
The Huskemaw isn't a bad scope in my opinion. Its just not a good one either. I think the vertical adjustment is very good and repeatable. The windage dial is not. I think they put their stock in the reticle being the primary windage correction method when they redesigned the Jap model that it originated from. Optics are not on par with other scopes in its price range either. I think this scope is a $650-$725 scope at best and they retail for much more than that.
Leupold's are not bad for the money. To me they are the best bang for the buck when it comes to ruggedness, repeatability, and optical clarity. You can find 4.5-14's and 6.5-20's for less than a grand used in most cases. I would recommend those going either newer Mark 4 or VX3 (opposed to VariX-III or VXIII) as they did make some noticeable upgrades although neither will be a bad choice.
I had limited time with a Weaver tactical model about 1.5 year ago but it seemed to be a decent scope too. Only thing Weaver I have ever touched though and it was only for two 3 shot groups out of a .308.
I've also used a Konus tactical M30. This was on a very high end AR rifle in 223 so the comparison is not exactly apples to apples. I will say I was highly skeptical of this scopes capability given its retail price and all the bells and whistles it had. I tried everything I could to find a fault with it and after 150 rds down range I just couldn't. Not saying rush out and buy one tomorrow but depending on your budget is this may work for you.
To date I haven't had the opportunity to put a Vortex PST through its paces. I've been dying to though. I've been saving money for a spotter so it looks like it will be a while unless one of my friends happens to buy one that I can try. I won't comment on it one way or another until I try it but everything I've read to date indicates that it is the best economy long range scope available now.
I won't bash Nikon because its been about 10 years since I've seen or used any but in my opinion they make good glass and that's about it. Tracking systems, main tube construction, overall ruggedness, etc just aren't on par with other manufacturers in the same price range.

Don't forget the Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 and 6.5-20x50 scopes with the target turrets. I have one on my STW and it is some serious bang for your buck.

If you want to stay in the 3-4 power on the low end of magnification, then the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP EBR-1 MOA Reticle Scope would be my choice!
I just bought a Leupold VX-6. For distance I will take advantage of the CDS dial.
As for up close, I am considering a Weaver Micro dot mounted to the scope for quick acquisition or close moving target....running whitetails
