Cotote @ 1457 yards

I was spotting for Recoil as he was trying to hit a stick at 1435 or there abouts. He had just shot two rounds that landed within inches of each other when I hear COYOTE. I'm zoomed in too far with the spotting scope to see it but as Tyson barks at it to get it to stop I hear recoil let loose another round. He says it looked like I hit it so we hike out to take a look.
Just below where he was shooting at the stck I spot this laying in the bottom of the wash

That red spot on its shoulder is the entrance and it left a ½ dallar size exit. It still went over 50 yards after the hit=Mostly downhill.
Recoil was shooting his Savage 300WSM with Berger 185s @ just over 3000fps. This is toped with a NF with the 1000 yard reticle that works very well BTW. In this case he was dialing though=43 MOA up and 8 MOA for the wind. Some may call it luck but Recoil works very hard to make his lucklightbulb

**** Fine shooting. They are pretty small at that range. Nice going!! I have taken a hand full over 1000 the farthest was 1200+. It takes a well seasoned hold and trigger break to pull that off.

I didnt see it getting shot but they where claiming it to be a big one= I was the first to spot the carcase and had to laugh as she was definatly not a big coyote but a better shot I have not witnessed.
Looking though the spotting scope I didnt have perspective of the stick he was shooting at, what I thought was a 6' stick was only about ½ that. I could put 2 fingers and my thumb in the 3 holes ( the group was spaced the same as a bowling ball) he put in the hillside.
Four years ago I was teaching him how to shoot longer ranges= These days I'm the student! He has that Savage 300WSM flat out shooting!!

It realy helps when they walk into your target you already have 4 rounds into The wind was playing some funny games but he has been practicing a lot and getting quite good at hitting what he is aiming at.....with the 300WSM. The tag soup he had last fall kinda put a fire under himgun)
Last weekend he handed me his 25-06 for a 250 yard coyote milling around some newborn calves. My excuse for missing is I had to shoot left handed but the shot broke clean.....I still cant believe I missed a standing coyote @ 250 yards

**** Fine shooting Mach! Very, very impressive! I love reading about stories like this, I need to get out and shoot my new RBros 6.5 at some extended ranges then find some warm targets.

Very nice shot indeed, I salivate thinking of doing that myself. There are a few yotes ot here. Had 3 or so trying to make a meal of one of my dogs that was on a chain. She tore into them but had many bite marks on her, they had to go w/o din din. Noticed they take the long way around after the dance lessons. Sorry, went off track a touch. Can the 270 take larger game useing Barns or Berger's? Or will it only leave a pin hole and hurt animal?

Definitely, although I'd pick the Barnes every time over the Berger for heavy game. I'd be more worried about the Berger NOT penetrating far enough, but the Barnes will be easily capable of taking moose or even a bit more in a .270 as long as you PLACE YOUR SHOTS WELL. I've found the tricky part is to get the Barnes to shoot accurately, but that's just my gun.
