So, a friend of mine drove over from Washington state to visit me here in Idaho. On the way over, he stops in Pendleton, Oregon to get something to eat and he finds his way into a gun store called Garners. He just basically looks around and sees that they have a bunch of reloading stuff and he mentions it to me when he arrives at my place. So I give him a list of things to look for when he goes back as he said he would be more than happy to stop.
He calls me from the store. He says that they have primers, bullets, etc. So, I tell him to pick me up a case of federal 215M and he goes to pay for them. The clerk tells him that he HAS to buy bullets. He goes, "what?" He tells him that if he buys primers, he has to buy some bullets. He calls me on the phone and tells me that they won't sell him any primers without buying bullets. I ask him to see if they have any berger 215's 30 cal. He says that they have three boxes and I tell him to go ahead and pick them up. He goes back to the clerk and the clerk says that he can only buy 150 primers because he is only buying 150 bullets. So, I say, "put the dude on the phone." Their "store policy" is that to prevent hoarding, they have come up with this procedure in that you can only buy the same amount of primers that you buy in bullets. ***???? This crap is just insane.

Yeah, good question. I was also wondering if you could just buy bullets without the primers. It just seems silly to me to regulate it this way as you may just want one component without the other. But, it's their store and they can do what they wish but i'll shop where I wish.

I can buy whatever and how much I want of anything at my local store. Not only do they not have any restrictions on reloading supplies, but none on ammo or guns either. Which is how it should be, IMO.

Now I just need me an 8lb keg of Varget and some more .30 Berger 210 VLD's.

Keep notes boys. This won't last forever. They are entitled to have what ever selling policies they choose. But we as buyers can too. "What goes around comes around"

will they sell you 1 bullet, 1 primer and an exact amount of powder needed to propel said bullet? Just wondering after all I have ever needed was 1 shot :D.

Wow - haven't seen that one yet! Do you have to buy 1 brass case for every 6 primers and bullets? If you buy an annealing kit can you stretch to one case for every 12?

That is a stupid rule, and does not stop hoarding. If you have to limit to "normal" quantities I can understand (like, not letting someone buy 5K primers). These wannbe MBA sales policies are nutty. I like the idea of keeping lists!

Yup, it is just plain stupid. It was always my understanding that when you are in business, you are supposed to sell. But, hey, maybe that's just me.
As Broz said, it will eventually settle down and their business practices in difficult times may haunt them in good times.

This is not good. In the next few days it is the month of May and the two gun stores owners I know still have no clue when they will see Hodgdon powder. I can't make my guns go bang without powder. Sure I have enough to last me but I would like to build a 6BR for woodchucks and I need other powder for that.

Yup. I visited there the other day and bought a new Remington 700 with detachable magazine. I went to buy ammo and they said they could only sell me five cartridges unless I bought another magazine. NO, not really, but it needed to be said. I have a LONG memory.:D

HAHAHA! That is ridiculous! I would have told them where they could have shoved that extra magazine along with the 5 extra rounds if they fit!
