Hello everyone I was wondering what you guys are using to clean your barrels? I currently use Mpro7 for carbon fowling and Blue Wonder for copper fowling but im out of both and am looking to try something new. I've heard a lot of good things about Boretech and KG cleaning products. and I was wondering what you like better. Thanks

I like Bore Tech. I did a small test with this a wile back that Broz recommended me to try.

I took 4 dirty rifles(around 50 rounds each) and cleaned them each with a different solvent until patches came out clean.
Gun#1-KG products
Gun#2-butch's
Gun#3-sweet's
Gun#4-hope's #9

I then ran 2 wet patches of bore tech eleminator threw each of them and let it soak for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes I ran another wet patch threw... None of them had carbon fouling but every rifle still had bad copper fouling. I cleaned them all with eleminator until patches were clean.
I then ran the test over but with the clean barrels just to see if the others would pick up anything that the Bore Tech left behind. There was nothing.

I now use Bore Tech C4 for carbon and Cu+2 for copper. If I am doing a quick clean or barrel break-in I use Eleminator. When using bore tech it also eliminates the need for a fouling shot, just leave the Cu+2 or Eleminator in the barrel for rust prevention when storing a rifle. When ready to shoot just patch it out(normally 5-6 patches) and you are ready to go!

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll try my best to help.

Bore-Tech for me too, however, prior to, I use cheap aersol, non-chlorianted brake cleaner from Auto Value. Cheaper the better, it's all the same, just the can colors change.

It's like toilet paper. Use it and flush it (toilet paper).....lol

You can't beat brake cleaner for powder residue removal, I use it on actions too. Just be cautious with plastic parts, brake cleaner will destroy most plastics.

I use Boretech C4 for carbon and boretech Cu+2 for copper. I would imagine that the Cu+2 would be enough for carbon and copper because all of my guns were clean of carbon and copper after just cleaning with it.

Well the results are clear so far.. When you use the boretech do you scrub the barrel or is it a soaking cleaner? I ask because people who use KG say it works very fast because you use a nylon brush to scrub. Thanks everyone.

I just go by the directions on the bottle.

Soak and push three patches through the bore.

Put Cu+2 on a nylon brush and do 15 strokes.

Soak and push three more patches through.

Let it sit 10-15 mins and then I put just a little solvent on the tip of the patch and push through.

Then dry patch it.

Depending on how long ago the gun has been cleaned or how terrible it fowls, you may have to let it sit longer than 15 mins.

I do the same. And if the barrel pretty bad with copper just let is sit for a bit longer. And if it isn't clean after the first round just repeat. And in the future cleaning will get easier and faster.

The 2 best (and most expensive accessories I own) are the Bench Source annealer and the Hawkeye Bore scope.

Nothing beats being able to actually look inside the mysterious tunnel that goes from the chamber to the crown.......

I have used a bunch of the "best" solvents including KG. Bore Tech removed more copper when they were done.

I have not tried C4 yet. I start by pushing wet patches of Eliminator through the bore until they start getting light colored. Then I push a brush through and pull it back just inside the muzzle, stand the rifle up on it's butt, then drop a few drops (liberally) down over the brush and into the bore. Then stroke it a few times. Then let it sit about 20 min or so. Then wet patch it out and repeat the cycle. I use Eliminator until I dont see any more carbon traces, then I switch to CU+2.

The reason I start with Eliminator is because carbon and copper are laid down in layers each time you shoot and Eliminator removes both. When I start seeing blue patches only, I switch to CU+2.

You can not use bronze/brass jags and brushes because the Boretech will start eating them immediately and cause a false copper indication.

Thanks everyone, good info.

Montanarifleman, I like your technique, I ve never heard that before. What kind of jags to you use?

+1, also, if you are doing break in, use eliminator, i just broke in a barrel using C4 and CU+2 and it took a while because i had to let two different solvent do their work, eliminator would have been much faster.

Currently I am using nickel platted jags but they wear and expose the brass. I will be switching to Boretech proof positive jags. Another thing I do is put my BTE and CU+2 into little 1 oz eye drop bottles which makes it much easier to use and dispense. The Boretech bottles drip all over.
