I am wanting to use this bullet out of my 20" 308 for hunting but not at 1000yds. However, I am wanting to try my hand on steel at 1000yds for fun. Will this bullet be able to reach out that far accurately?

Have to run it out on a program to get a better idea, but off the top of my head, I'd say no, probably not. Especially not from a 20" 308. That's just asking a bit too much from a short package like this.

since i shoot a 6.5-284 my bullets stay supersonic. i have read if your bullet does not stay super sonic it does not fly consistent.

I ran it on JBM with a velocity of 2600 and it says at 1000yds at 4300ft ALT, 20% hum, and 85*F it will be traveling at 1314FPS/ Mach 1.149.

A also low balled it at 2500FPS under the same conditions and at 1000yds got 1260FPS/ Mach 1.102.

Are these speeds still Supersonic? The altitude and atmospheric conditions that I plugged in would be quite similar to the conditions that I am thinking about shooting in a comp next year.

Well, I guess I will go against the grain and say of course you can. The Nolser BT in 165 .308 is not a high BC bullet but it is good bullet none the less. My 3006 and 308 shoot 165 BT's very well.

Not sure what velocity you will be shooting but I would try and get 2600 plus. At 2600 fps you go into the red at 1100 yards.

I have through much googling gotten the same resposes Brent. I talked to a guy who is a who is an XP/ Stryker pistol guru and he has told me that I need to keep it at at least 2600 to get it to 1K. Albeit, I need to be prepared to dial up alot. and that's fine. I am going ot try it.

Ok. I am sure know you have to have the speed to keep spinning etc. I would give a go for sure. 39moa I think. I shoot my 6.5 out to 1500.

I think that 10.5 mils is 36.75 MOA. I just checked my ap it says 36.5 for your set up. Sounds like the next words are, send it.

I meant to say I shoot 1500 yards and 43 MOA, so I know what you meant by dialing a lot of elevation.

In my .308 with 24" barrel I have consistently hit steel at 1000 yards with Hornady 168gr A-max. Factory rounds. I was at altitude though, approx 6700'. I was also able to get on 17" x 27" steel out to 1200 yards with the same round although not as consistently. Partly due to a strong wind that day.
