I am new to Berger bullets, and am trying to find some answers. I am trying to find the magic load for my 300 WBY with 210 VLDs. I am using H 1000 and Retumbo. I started out at 3150 fps and the MOA was close to 2.0. After half a box of lead later, my load seem to work well at about 2900fps. MOA is close to .250. The bad thing is the only distance I can shoot at is 100yds at this time. (Dam Canadian winters.) I have been tinkering with the COAL and from 3.550 to 3.900 it makes no difference what so ever to my MOA. I will have access to our range out to 800 yds soon. Does COAL make more of a difference at the longer distances? Or is this to do with the WBY freebore? Thanks for any input.
Berger seating depth makes no difference.

Yep, sounds like the typical freebore to me. Weatherby chambers have something called Free-Bore in them. Which is a smooth part of the bore, where the rifling hasn't started yet. Therefore, you will just about never be able to seat a weatherby up against the lands, withough only getting a couple thousands of bullet in the neck, which ain't gonna work so well...
Atleast, with my .257 Wby Mag it is this way, and so is my buddy's .300 Wby Mag that I load ammo for.
For my .257 Wby, I just load them to fit a few thousandths inside the magazine well, so I can load them in there, since my .257 is one of my 2 main deer rifles (other is a Browning A-Bolt II 7Mag). So I don't want to shoot them single-shot, so I load those 2 rifles where the ammo sits JUST inside the magazine wells.
You could always rebarrel it with a standard .300 Wby Mag reamer and you will be able to set the bullets up against the lands, since it will not have any freebore in it, unless you order your reamer to have freebore...
That's what I was thinking. 210 bergers are long and I can't seat them much farther out without them not even being in the case. I don't have a issue shooting single-shot, since I use this gun for caribou, and it's not like you need that you have to shoot fast. They are not the smartest animal in the world. I'll have to shoot some longer distances and see how it goes. Maybe time to sell and go for the RUM.

Is it a Mark-V 300 Wby? If so, for the right price, I might take it off your hands. Especially if it's a Accumark w/ an Accubrake on it.

Yes the comparing 210 VLD to the 215 Hybrid thread is a great thread.
The 215 Hybrid bullet is much less sensitive to the amount of jump to the lands compared to the VLD round. It has to do with the improved shape/geometry of the 215 Hybrid's ogive.
