Cheap Brake Experience?

Anyone use this brake? I don't want to drop a bunch of cash on this gun, but it's brutal to shoot. It's an old cheap flimsy stock staggered feed Savage in 7-mag.

Thanks for your help.

replacing the stock will make a world of difference. but a $30 brake from harrells precision is a great brake and very effective. have your smith give you .020 total bullet clearance (.010 per side)

Wow! Thanks for the hookup on that! I'm probably going to put a Hogue stock on it, but would be happy with a wood takeoff just to get away from the tupperware.

I put a Kick EEZ recoil pad on my wood stocked Rem 700 30-06 last year and LOVE it. May do the same to this once getting a new stock, depending on how well the brake works.

The problem with the Harrels and other brakes of that design is they are not near as efficent and they kick dirt up when the muzzle is close to the ground. I have taken a lot of the less efficent brakes off and replaced with efficient brake and have been told wow what a difference.

Just my 2 cents worth

Yes the radial hole design used to be the 30.00 one, braking surface and is the main criteria to make them more efficent. I sell one that works really well and is what I recommend but there is a 100 ways to skin a cat.

Golly Steve, that bull bugling on your services page makes me quiver a little... :) how much for a brake focused on recoil reduction from 70-100g of Retumbo (possible 2 different guns) that will screw onto a .6 (haven't officially measured, but will when I get home- I figure it's around .65) muzzle shipped to 85546? PM?

I have one on a 300 wtby, it looks like a Ross schuler brake, it works very well for the price. Similar to the holland. You won't be disappointed for the price.

That is Ross Schuler. I have one on my 7mm WSM and really like it.

I would consider buying a new stock from Boyd's.

Boyds: PRAIRIE HUNTER SAVAGE® 110 BLIND MAG LONG ACTION STAGGERED FEED FACTORY BARREL CHANNEL NUTMEG LAMINATE (FINISHED) Prairie Hunter

They will add a Pachmayr Decelerator for $30 and you will be a LOT happier than you are now.

Good

Should make that feel like a 22-250

Sent you a PM
Thanks Steve! I appreciate it!

Ordered that sucker, but in pepper! The wife wanted to keep it the black/grey color since the stock is black now. I was torn between the nutmeg and the pepper, but the wife swayed me. Thanks!

I bought a brake from the guy listing them on ebay and put it on my 7mm RUM. He was good to work with on what diameter, hole pattern and thread size I wanted. The first time I shot the rifle at the range I punched out a 3 shot 0.18" 100 yd group with minimal recoil and reasonable muzzle blast. They are an excellent value.

That's good to hear! I may pick one up after all.
